The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that the bomb attack on
\nGeneral Muhammadu Buhari, is a reminder of the regime of late General Sani
\nAbacha when Pro Democracy activists were blamed for series of bomb
\nattacks.<\/p>\n
The opposition party also called for an international inquiry into
\nWednesday\u2019s assassination attempt on its leader, Gen. Buhari, to unravel
\nthe motive and the perpetrators of the dastardly act that could have
\nplunged the country into a deep turmoil, had it succeeded.<\/p>\n
In a statement issued in Benin on Sunday by its National Chairman, Chief
\nJohn Odigie Oyegun, the party said it does not have the confidence that
\nthe Nigerian security agencies can carry out an impartial investigation,
\nbecause they work for the government instead of the nation.<\/p>\n
It said the call has become more urgent because the agents of the Federal
\nGovernment have started muddling the waters with their sickening
\nstatements and actions on the attack.<\/p>\n
\u201dHow does one explain a situation in which a man who is nothing but a
\npervert is now being paraded as the suspected \u2018mastermind\u2019 of the attack
\non Gen. Buhari? At what point was this man, who perhaps is nothing but a
\ntransvestite plying his trade, arrested? Is it not clear, from the
\nstatement released by Gen. Buhari himself after the attack, that it was
\nclearly the handiwork of a suicide bomber?<\/p>\n
\u201dCould the person who drove the vehicle that was rammed into the General\u2019s
\nconvoy have survived the explosion that was triggered by that action?
\nCould the innocent passers-by who died in the blast not have been arrested
\nand paraded as the \u2018suspected masterminds\u2019 if they had survived the blast?
\nClearly, the arrest of the pervert and his sickening description as a
\n\u2018suspected mastermind\u2019 have kick-started the process of muddling the
\nwaters, as is usually the case with such high-profile cases.<\/p>\n
\u201dThis is why an urgent international inquiry into the attack is desirable
\nand imperative, and anyone who is committed to an impartial probe of the
\nattack on the opposition leader should embrace our call,\u201d APC said, adding
\nthat the insurgency and its spin-offs are now clearly beyond the
\ncapability of this Federal Government.<\/p>\n
The party also said the call has been further justified by the statements
\nand insinuations emanating from the ruling PDP and the presidency, both of
\nwhich now seem to be pointing accusing fingers at the same party (APC)
\nthat is clearly the target of the failed assassination attempt on one of
\nits top leaders.<\/p>\n
\u201dThe questions to ask the purveyors of such repugnant theories are: Did
\nthe late Emir of Kano also stage the attack on his convoy? Did the other
\nEmirs who were attacked, with at least one of them killed recently, also
\nstage the attack against themselves? Did Gen. Muhammed Shuwa, who was
\nkilled by gunmen in Maiduguri in 2012, also stage the attack on himself?<\/p>\n
\u201dWe are indeed in very interesting times, times that remind one of the
\nfailed attempt by the Administration of the late military dictator, Gen.
\nAbacha, to blame pro-democracy group NADECO for the series of deadly
\nattacks on pro-democracy activists during the tenure of the
\nAdministration.<\/p>\n
\u201dBut we are confident that just as the truth about those who perpetrated
\nthose attacks was eventually revealed, the masterminds of the failed
\nassassination attempt on our leader will definitely be exposed sooner than
\nlater, whether or not the government agrees to our call for an
