{"id":29525,"date":"2014-07-27T18:57:32","date_gmt":"2014-07-27T17:57:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=29525"},"modified":"2014-07-27T18:57:32","modified_gmt":"2014-07-27T17:57:32","slug":"northern-leaders-failed-us-arewa-youths","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/northern-leaders-failed-us-arewa-youths\/","title":{"rendered":"Northern Leaders Have Failed Us \u2013 Arewa Youths"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">President of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, Yerima Shettima, recently took a swipe on all former heads of state from the North when he accused them of contributing to the backwardness of the region.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The youth leader also blamed some delegates at the ongoing national conference who kicked against establishing a special fund to rehabilitate the North-East.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p style=\"color: #141823; text-align: justify;\">Shettima said \u00a0that all northern leaders who had ruled the country as well as other northern elites failed to lift the region when they had the opportunity to do so. According to him, they have plunged northerners into poverty.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #141823; text-align: justify;\">The AYC leader said, \u201cWhat they have been able to bequeath to the region is backwardness, illiteracy, poverty and lack of employment. There\u2019s poverty all over the northern region as a result of their bad stewardship; lack of accountability and transparency.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #141823; text-align: justify;\">\u201cFor more than two decades of their being in power in Nigeria since independence and having the opportunities to transform the North, they failed to lift up the region. That\u2019s why today the northerners receive all types of insults from their southern counterparts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #141823; text-align: justify;\">\u201cNone of the leaders -name any of them -has been exceptional. They have not done anything.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #141823; text-align: justify;\">But on the contrary, a the National Executive Council of the Arewa Consultative Forum, Alhaji Mohammed flayed Shettima for apportioning blame on norther leaders.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #141823; text-align: justify;\">According to him, many of the northern former heads of state are men who want the best not only for northerners but for the whole nation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #141823; text-align: justify;\">The ACF chieftain said, \u201cWe are worried about Nigeria. It\u2019s not really time to apportion blame. It\u2019s true northerners had ruled the country more than any other regions. Nonetheless, I will tell you these leaders are good men. They are not the cause of the North\u2019s problems.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #141823; text-align: justify;\">\u201cI won\u2019t say they\u2019re the cause of our woes. What he (Shettima) said is grandstanding; he\u2019s only doing political grandstanding. Young people like him like to make all the noise.
