Fiery catholic priest and spiritual director, Adoration Ministry Enugu
\nNigeria (AMEN), Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka has berated Imo state governor,
\nOwelle Rochas Okorocha for allegedly issuing N50Million dud cheque to
\nOwerri Catholic Archdiocese even after the church voted massively for him
\nin the 2011 governorship election.<\/p>\n
It would be recalled that the catholic community controls about 60% voting
\npopulation in the state which favoured Okorocha who contested under the
\nplatform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to clinch the
\ngovernorship seat following the widespread allegation that the immediate
\npast governor, Ikedi Ohakim, who was also seeking re-election, assaulted
\none of their priests in the build- up to theelection.<\/p>\n
Mbaka who made this shocking revelation at his Christ the King adoration
\nground, Enugu, attended by ex governor Ohakim and his supporters,
\ndescribed Okorocha as a disappointment to God and
\nhumanity, having betrayed the confidence and trust reposed in him by Imo
\nelectorate.<\/p>\n
While regretting what he described as an orchestrated propaganda which
\nscuttled Ohakim\u2019s re- election bid in 2011, the popular cleric attributed
\nthe development to selfishness and insensitivity on the part of his former
\ngovernor\u2019s aides whom he accused of jeopardizing his investigation ahead
\nof the elections by not granting him access to interact and establish the
\nveracity of the damaging allegation that pitched him against the entire
\ncatholic community.<\/p>\n
“It is regrettable that at last the truth has manifested though not at the
\nright time. Ohakim didn’t beat any priest. It was an orchestrated
\nfalsehood and blackmail which unfortunately were aimed at scuttling his re
\n-election bid. When we wanted to reach the governor so as to
\nget his own version, those that worked with him made it impossible. We
\nwaited patiently for him but he never showed up. It was then we composed
\nour music ” Onye ahu kuru father Ihe, ogaghi achi anyi zoo” meaning “The
\nperson that beat our priest will not rule us again” which made Catholics
\nin Imo to deny him their votes.<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, it is good to tell the truth even if it is coming late. Let the
\ntruth be told today though not necessarily to prepare him for another
\ngovernorship project but for the whole world to know that he
\nnever did anything like that. Even if Ohakim dies tomorrow, the world will
\nnow know that he didn’t beat any priest. I am saying this because after
\nlistening to Ohakim’s version and that of the priest
\ninvolved in the controversy and discovered that the allegation was false,
\nit then behooved on me as a servant of God to make my findings public and
\ndeclare the former governor innocent” Mbaka said.
\nSpeaking on Okorocha’s administration, Mbaka regretted that after
\nbenefitting from the falsehood that ousted the former governor from
\noffice, the rescue mission governor has to the chagrin of everybody
\ndecided to reward the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri and Imo people with
\nN50M dud cheque and bad governance respectively.<\/p>\n
“After the blackmail and falsehood that Ohakim assaulted a catholic
\npriest, the man that benefitted from the whole thing is now dealing with
\nImo people as well as destroying the state. Even our Archbishop in Owerri
\nis now crying. Could you imagine that our cathedral in Owerri is almost
\ncollapsing and what this man called Rochas Okorocha could do was to give
\nthe church a N50 million dud cheque? As I am speaking now, Okorocha is
\ndealing with Imo people. In fact, that man
\nis not a blessing to Ndi Imo and I wonder the kingdom where he came from”
\nhe said.<\/p>\n
Apparently predicting a better fortune for Ohakim who is currently
\ncontesting the PDP governorship ticket ahead 2015 polls, Mbaka concluded
\nby warning the former whom he admitted has had his own dose of
\nshortcomings as a human being to always seek the face of God and
\nconsistently do the right thing for the glory of his Creator.<\/p>\n
He further lamented the growing scenario where Nigerian politicians turn
\nagainst God whenever they found themselves in power only to remember Him
