The Federal Government has approved the commencement of the upgrade of
\nwork at the second Niger Bridge to facilitate an improvement of the
\neconomy of the people of Delta, Edo States and the South-south region in
\ngeneral.<\/p>\n
Vice President Sambo stated this while receiving a delegation of elders
\nfrom Delta and Edo States (led by the Minister for Works, Mike Onolememen)
\non behalf of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan at the State House, Abuja.
\nThe delegation, made up of Ebu, Illah, Emu, Inyede and Igbedo, the host
\nand immediate benefiting communities of the Utor River Bridge on the
\nAsaba-Illah-Emu-Ahia-Uromi road was on a \u2018thank you visit\u2019 to the Federal
\nGovernment for the successful completion of the project.<\/p>\n
Vice President Sambo stated that, \u2018the President\u2019s approval for the
\ncommencement of the work also includes the upgrade of the arteries and
\nconnections to the bridge\u2019. He directed the Minister of Works to ascertain
\nthe actual areas that need to be dualised. The Vice President pointed out
\nthat the completion of the bridge project will likely attract an increased
\nflow of traffic. To this end, he further directed that designs must be
\npresented for the future dualisation of the road. He said that the work is
\nscheduled to commence by 2015.<\/p>\n
Vice President Sambo said that, \u2018the Federal Government is also planning
\nto provide railways in all these areas to make for a more effective
\ntransportation system.\u2019 He assured the delegation that the transformation
\nprogrammes of this administration will be faithfully implemented to
\nbenefit of Nigerians.<\/p>\n
Earlier, the Royal Highnesses of Ebu, Illah, Emu, Inyede and Igbedo,
\nrepresented by Andrew Omalu Okoja expressed their appreciation to the
\nFederal Government for the completion of the Utor River Bridge project
\nwhich was abandoned by various previous administrations and eventually
\nresuscitated, approved and funded by this present administration. They
\nexpressed further appreciation to the government for the quick response to
\nthe recently collapsed Two Cell Box Culvert Bridge between Illah and Ebu
\non the Asaba-Ebu-Emu-Ahia-Uromi road. They appealed that urgent attention
\nbe given to the second Cell Box Bridge at Ega-Ebu that is presently
\nshowing signs of distress. They promised to lend their support to the
\npresent administration for their continued stay in office after 2015 to
\nenable the completion of similar projects still presently ongoing.<\/p>\n
