The Bayelsa Government says any persons caught dumping refuse in unauthorised places will be prosecuted.<\/p>\n
The state Commissioner for Environment, Dr Sylvanus Abila, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yenagoa that the measure was adopted to keep the state capital and its environs clean.<\/p>\n
He said the state Environmental Sanitation Authority Law, which had long been in existence, would be fully implemented by the State Government.<\/p>\n
He also said the law stipulated that every landlord and hotels would place refuse bags in front of their buildings.<\/p>\n
According to him, agents will be contracted to collect refuse for a fee, adding that defaulters would be arrested and prosecuted.<\/p>\n
Abila said that government would hold workshops to sensitise the people on the implications and consequences of the environmental sanitation laws of the state.<\/p>\n
He also told NAN that the inter-Ministerial Committee set up by government had already begun the clearing of natural drains in the state capital to forestall flood menace. (NAN)<\/p>\n
