\u00a0<\/span>Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State over the weekend urged those who occupy positions of public trust in the country to exercise power in the best interest of the people.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
The Governor gave the advice, while interacting with his Rivers State University of Science and Technology classmates fondly referred to as \u2018class 92\u2019 when he hosted them to a dinner party at Government House, Yenagoa.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
He noted that nobody could achieve power outside the benevolence of God and therefore, it should be used in promoting the common good of the people.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
To achieve this, he posited that, leaders must be ready to make sacrifices and sometimes take painful decisions to move society forward.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
According to him, \u201cif it\u00a0has pleased<\/span><\/span>\u00a0God to\u00a0allow us exercise<\/span><\/span>\u00a0public authority and power, which we didn\u2019t get by our strength in the first place,\u00a0we therefore, have<\/span><\/span>\u00a0a duty to ensure that, power is utilized in the best interest of the people.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
Going down memory lane, the governor noted that, \u201chaving done that for the past two and half years, I also know what comes with it. I spent a lot of political capital talking about the new direction and message of change; and why this state needs to move away from that, which I call clique culture, where things don\u2019t get done; roads and bridges don\u2019t get built in the name of difficult terrain; while some few people smile to the banks with their collaborators. That is what we are confronting.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cBut when I look back at the decisions and actions I\u2019ve had to take in the last two and half years, when I go round and see the flyovers and road\u00a0dualization<\/span><\/span>\u00a0works going on; roads linking the hitherto inaccessible areas and the hospitals we are building in every local government area, where we are going to have the most functional health insurance system for the people.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cContinuing, the Governor remarked, \u201cwhen I look back at all the schools-primary, secondary and tertiary and over 150\u00a0PhD<\/span><\/span>\u00a0and about 500 masters degree scholars outside the shores of this country and over 300 secondary students placed in choice schools. My dear friends, I\u2019m glad to report to you that, I feel very fulfilled and happy.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
Governor Dickson, who expressed delight at the re-union after about 21 years of graduation, urged his classmates to form a structure to forge better interaction andamity<\/span><\/span>\u00a0among them.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
In their separate remarks, some of the former classmates of Governor Dickson, Justice Raphael Ajuwa, Justice\u00a0Ebbis<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Uche, Christy Oloko, Ikenna Morgan, Golden Tamuno, Emeka Ojoko, said they were proud to associate with the Governor, in view of what they described as his outstanding performance in promoting transparency and good governance in the state.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
Recalling their days at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Port Harcourt, Rivers State, they observed that, his virtues of discipline, hard work, courage have been brought to bear on his leadership style, as governor of Bayelsa State.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
According to his classmates, life is all about networking and prayed God to grant the Governor good health, wisdom and divine protection in his quest to improve the living standard of the people.<\/span><\/div>\n
