{"id":30379,"date":"2014-08-19T20:13:41","date_gmt":"2014-08-19T19:13:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=30379"},"modified":"2014-08-19T20:13:41","modified_gmt":"2014-08-19T19:13:41","slug":"ebola-us-commends-nigeria-four-patients-discharged","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/ebola-us-commends-nigeria-four-patients-discharged\/","title":{"rendered":"Ebola: US Commends Nigeria as Four More Patients are Discharged"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1408474037962_12386\" class=\"base-card-body\" style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1408474037962_12380\" class=\"msg-body inner  undoreset\" tabindex=\"0\">\n<div id=\"yiv1340553134\">\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1408474037962_12385\">\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1408474037962_12430\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The US government has commended the Nigerian government and its health authorities for their handling of the Ebola virus since it broke in Lagos last month.<\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1408474037962_15048\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1408474037962_15059\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The US\u2019 commendation came on the back of more good news yesterday that four more patients who had contracted the disease had been discharged and declared free of the infectious disease.<\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1408474037962_15060\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1408474037962_15061\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">With their discharge, this brings the total number of people who have been given the all clear to five.<\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1408474037962_15062\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">A total of 12 people were struck with the virus in Nigeria, including the index case Patrick Sawyer, of which four have died, five have been discharged while three remain in the isolation ward at the Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba, Lagos.<\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1408474037962_15063\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1408474037962_15064\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, all hopes that the US would send the ZMapp experimental drug to Nigeria were dimmed yesterday when the US government ruled out the possibility, saying there were insufficient quantities of the drug available.<\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1408474037962_15065\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Making this known when he visited the Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, in Abuja, the US Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle, informed reporters that what was needed was to focus primarily on isolation and the screening of patients or those suspected to have contracted the virus.<\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1408474037962_15066\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1408474037962_15067\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to Entwistle: \u201cWe\u2019ll see down the road what is possible. But there are no huge quantities now.
