{"id":30440,"date":"2014-08-22T04:29:27","date_gmt":"2014-08-22T03:29:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=30440"},"modified":"2014-08-22T11:56:40","modified_gmt":"2014-08-22T10:56:40","slug":"safrica-issues-travel-ban-ebola-hit-countries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/articles-opinions\/safrica-issues-travel-ban-ebola-hit-countries\/","title":{"rendered":"As Hurricane TAN hits the South West"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">By:\u00a0 Odozi Nwodozi<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">On Saturday 16 August 2014, the Transformation train hit the South-East<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">when the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) pulled an<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">unprecedented mammoth crowd to the Alex Ekwueme Square Awka for the first<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">of a seven-leg pan- Nigerian endorsement advocacy trip for a second term<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">bid for Preesident Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">With the kind of passion that enveloped the entire South-East in the days<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">leading to the Awka rally, market unions closing down their shops, social<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">and cultural groups mobilising their members in large numbers, students,<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">women and youth groups practically positioned to out-shine each other,<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">while religious and traditional leaders were on ground to ensure that the<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">celestial was agreement with the physical, and that every segment of the<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">society was carried along. It was a foregone conclusion that the rally<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">will be a bang, it turned out to be a success story and a reference point<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">in advocacy aimed at mass appeal.<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The peak of the Awka extravaganza was the demands by the people of the<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">South-East that\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Dr. Goodluck Jonathan throw in the hat for a second<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">term bid. This they did by a collation of about 1.6 million verifiable<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">signatories from across the nooks and crannies of the five states that<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">make up Igbo enclave. To Ndigbo, \u201cOne good turn deserves another\u201d,<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">especially for a man who has truly Nigerianise the populace with strategic<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">patronages and qualitative infrastructural developments.<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">From Awka, the TAN train moves to Ibadan the Oyo state Capital, the former<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">capital of the defunct Western Region. Like an impending Tsunami, the<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">airwaves are dominated by promotional items aimed at re-echoing awareness<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">about the event in the minds of the South-West populace. As witnessed in<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the South-East leg of the Rally, lovers of the Transformation Agenda of<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the Goodluck administration are working tirelessly to highlight the high<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">points of the agenda as it concerns the South-West; from the Establishment<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">of a two \u2013campus Federal University in ( Oye and Ikole Ekiti) Ekiti state,<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the commissioning of the Omotosho power plant, the completion of the<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ibadan-Oyo Road, the commencement of the re-construction of the<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lagos-Ibadan Express Road, the on-going construction of two deep sea ports<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">in Badagry and Lekki respectively, not forgetting the domineering presence<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">of the region in the recent Centenary awards marking the 100 years of<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Nigeria\u2019s nationhood. The Yoruba nation will also use the opportunity of<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the TAN rally to appreciate Mr. President for reposing confidence in them<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">with the appointment of General Jones Arogboofa (rtd) as the Chief of<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Staff to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">(The first time a Yoruba will occupy that position).<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Coupled with the massive ethical and infrastructural transformational wind<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">blowing across various sectors of the Nigerian economy ranging from<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">agriculture, education, health, housing, and sports just to mention a few.<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In the agricultural sector, Nigeria is presently at an unprecedented level<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">of food production and consequent security, while the health sector<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">despite unavoidable challenges has shown tremendous departure from the<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">pitiable recent past. In housing, the Nigerian worker and other low income<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">earners are now positioned to own houses with the recently launched<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Federal Government backed Mortgage Mass Housing scheme. The aviation<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">sector has witnessed the up-ward re-modelling of our airports and an<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">unprecedented construction of over twenty new airports across the<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">federation. While in sports the shinning results of our sportsmen and<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">women is a clear demonstration of the massive support they are receiving<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">from the Jonathan administration.<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Come Saturday 23 August 2014, the inhabitants of the South-West, from all<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">walks of life, across social, economic, political, and religious<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">boundaries will stand up in unison to add their voices to the nationalist<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">and patriotic demands of progressive Nigerians in asking President<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to take the Transformation Agenda to a logical<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">conclusion by accepting the clamour of Nigerians to contest the 2015<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Presidential Elections.<\/span><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><br style=\"color: #000000;\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Odozi Nwodozi is the Special Assistant to Dr. Udenta O.
