{"id":31644,"date":"2014-09-30T23:30:15","date_gmt":"2014-09-30T22:30:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=31644"},"modified":"2014-10-01T10:06:57","modified_gmt":"2014-10-01T09:06:57","slug":"first-ebola-case-diagnosed-us-soil","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/first-ebola-case-diagnosed-us-soil\/","title":{"rendered":"First Ebola case diagnosed on US soil"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"story_continues_1\" class=\"introduction\" style=\"font-weight: bold;\">The first case of the deadly Ebola virus diagnosed on US soil has been confirmed in Dallas, Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Officials at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital say the unidentified patient is being kept in isolation<\/p>\n<p>The man is thought to have contracted the virus in Liberia before travelling to the US nearly two weeks ago.<\/p>\n<p>More than 3,000 people have already died of Ebola in West Africa and a small number of US aid workers have recovered after being flown to the US.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;An individual travelling from Liberia has been diagnosed with Ebola in the United States,&#8221; Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Thomas Frieden told reporters on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>According to Mr Frieden, the unnamed patient left Liberia on 19 September and arrived in the US the next day without displaying any symptoms of the virus.<\/p>\n<div class=\"caption full-width\" style=\"color: #505050;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"font-style: italic; color: #505050;\" src=\"http:\/\/news.bbcimg.co.uk\/media\/images\/77926000\/jpg\/_77926863_77926862.jpg\" alt=\"Aid worker Nancy Writebol \" width=\"624\" height=\"351\" \/><span style=\"color: #505050;\">Aid worker Nancy Writebol was flown to Atlanta in early August<\/span><\/div>\n<p>Symptoms of the virus became apparent on 24 September, and on 28 September he was admitted to a Texas hospital and put in isolation.<\/p>\n<p>Preliminary information indicates the unnamed patient was not involved in treating Ebola-infected patients while in Liberia.<\/p>\n<p>Health officials are working to identify all people who came into contact with the unnamed patient while he was infectious.<\/p>\n<p>Those people will then be monitored for 21 days to see if an Ebola-related fever develops.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The bottom line here is I have no doubt that we will control this importation, this case of Ebola, so it does not spread widely in this country,&#8221; Mr Frieden said. &#8220;We will stop it here.&#8221;<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The first case of the deadly Ebola virus diagnosed on US soil has been confirmed in Dallas, Texas.
