Kaduna – Former FCT Minister Nasiru El-Rufai on Thursday declared his
\nintention to contest the Kaduna State governorship on the platform of the
\nAll Progressives Congress (APC).<\/p>\n
El-Rufai said this in Kaduna when he visited the party\u2019s office.<\/p>\n
\u201cI came along with my colleagues to formally inform the state branch of
\nthe APC of my intension to contest for the governorship of Kaduna State.<\/p>\n
\u201dWe think that it is a necessary first step to inform the party officially
\nthat this is our intention before making any formal declaration,\u201d he said.
\nHe also congratulated the party leadership for its efforts in unifying the
\nvarious factions and groups that constituted the APC.<\/p>\n
He said the chairman of the party and his team did a great job in
\nreconciling all the warring factions \u201cand we think it is important to
\nencourage and ask them to do more\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201dAs part of the reconciliation process, I have also offered to, if I am
\nneeded, help and forge reconciliation and unite the party. I will be happy
\nto be part of any such initiative,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to him, \u201dwe came to present the party with some vehicles because
\nthe party has nothing or little in terms of operational materials.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs you can see, the party office is not yet furnished; we are going to
\nwork with other stakeholders to make sure that the party office is
\nfurnished \u201d.<\/p>\n
He said there was the need for its leadership to go round the state, to
\ncampaign and enlighten the electorate to collect their Permanent Voters\u2019
\nCards\u2019 and participate in the Continuous Voter Registration.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe thought that the party needed vehicles because since their (party
\nleadership) elections, they have been using their personal vehicles. That
\nis why we gave them some vehicles as a first step and we hope to do more.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe hope other aspirants will do even more because among the aspirants, I
\nam about the poorest, \u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He said he decided to run for the office after a long period of
\nconsultation and reflection \u201cbecause I am really angry at the state of
\nKaduna State.<\/p>\n
\u201c I think that my state has gone backward compared to our neighbouring
\nstates.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is impunity of the highest order and it has made me very angry and
\nmany others and that is why we came together and try to run for this
\noffice\u201d.<\/p>\n
He called on those that cared about Kaduna State to unite and forge ahead
