Let’s be our brothers’ keeper, Mark tell Nigerians at Sallah<\/p>\n
Senate President Senator David Mark has again reminded Nigerians of the inevitability of maintaining a harmonious relationship with one another irrespective of ethnic or religious affiliations.<\/p>\n
This he said is the needed elixir for maintaining peace , unity and progress in the country .<\/p>\n
In a goodwill message to Nigerians to mark this year’s Sallah, Senator Mark noted that there is no problem too difficult for the nation to overcome if we unite and maintain the sanctity of our brother hood.<\/p>\n
He stated that issue of insecurity could easily be tackled if “We confront it with a single purpose , honestly and unwavering commitment.<\/p>\n
” Government has all it takes to tackle this problem but government cannot make the needed impact if the people fail to cooperate. It requires all the arsenal and good will of the citizens to fight. ”<\/p>\n
Senator Mark added that the National Assembly will continue to play its role by providing the necessary legislative frame work for the executive arm of government to operate.<\/p>\n
On the 2015 general elections, Senator Mark reiterated that the nation should not be turned into a battle field in the desperation to clinch political offices.<\/p>\n
” For me being in politics is a call for service and I believe this is thinking of every reasonable politician. So our politics should not be a war fare. It is a game for service. We must play it according to the rules. We must be sportsmen and women at all times”.<\/p>\n
He stressed that the 1999 constitution and the electoral Act as amended provided the needed rules for the game as well as enough sanctions for offenders . He cautioned against violation of the law.<\/p>\n
Senator Mark commended Nigerians for remaining steadfast in spite of challenges, saying that government policies and programmes must be channelled towards meeting the needs of the people.<\/p>\n
