Abuja \u2013 The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday met in Abuja to
\nkick-start the process of amending its constitution ahead of its national
\nconvention on Oct. 29.<\/p>\n
The party\u2019s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Lai Mohammed, said this while
\naddressing journalists on the outcome of the National Executive Council
\n(NEC) meeting held at the party\u2019s secretariat.<\/p>\n
According to Mohammed, there is the need to get the NEC approval for the
\nconvention.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cprincipally, we proposed certain amendment to the constitution
\nof the party that will allow the party to function much more efficiently.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo that extent, we will hold what I call an extraordinary convention of
\nthe party on the 29th of this month in Abuja.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is to submit the proposals of the amendment to the national
\nconvention of the party,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Mohammed assured that the time table for the already published guidelines
\nfor primaries had not changed.<\/p>\n
Reacting to reports that the APC members were the main campaigners in the
\n#bringbackourgirls campaign, Mohammed said the party exco was not aware of
\nthat.<\/p>\n
He, however, said it was not impossible for party members to sympathise
\nwith any group.<\/p>\n
\u201cMake no mistake that we in the APC believe strongly as a party that Mr
\nPresident owes this nation a duty to secure our lives and property.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs long as those girls are missing, we as individuals or as a party will
\ncontinue to demand that Mr President does everything to make sure that
\nthey are released.<\/p>\n
\u201cI commend those who have been part of the campaign for the last six
\nmonths and if any member of APC is a member of that group, we commend
\nthem.\u201d
\nHe denied allegations that the party had evidence that the president was
\nkeeping a secret about the kidnapped Chibok girls.<\/p>\n
\u201cI never said in our press conference that we have evidence that Mr
\nPresident is keeping a secret from us.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut we have cited three instances that Mr President needs to come out and
\nexplain to Nigerians.\u201d (NAN)<\/p>\n
