Abia State Governor, Chief Theodore Orji, has commissioned four projects<\/p>\n
completed by his administration at the Amachara annex of the Abia State
\nspecialist and Diagnostic centre,Umuahia.<\/p>\n
The projects include the Administrative block, house officer\u2019s hostel, one
\n100 bed ward housing an intensive care unit, a cardiac centre and a modern
\nlaboratory and an accident and emergency department with ambulance which
\nthe governor donated to the hospital.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the event, the Governor who said he was interested in the
\nelongation of the lives of Abians added that it was for that reason that
\nhe was moved to replicate what he saw during one of his trips to the
\nUnited State of America where major medical facilities are located in one
\nplace.<\/p>\n
The Governor disclosed that his administration has expanded health centres
\nin the state from 250 to 710 scattered in parts of the state.<\/p>\n
Additionally, the Governor said his government has successfully built 100
\nbedded hospitals in nine Local Government Areas of the state and intends
\nto replicate it in all the 17 LGAs to enhance health care delivery to the
\npeople.<\/p>\n
The Governor expressed happiness that that the first batch of medical
\ninterns at Amachara Specialist Hospital, have completed their training
\nwhile plans were on to admit new ones.<\/p>\n
Earlier,the commissioner for Health, Dr. Okechukwu Ogah who said the
\nhospital hopes to pursue postgraduate residency training programme in
\ngeneral and family medicine in the near future disclosed that the
\ngovernment has approved the recruitment of specialists and other
\nhealthcare workers to ensure the objective.<\/p>\n
He also stated that the government has partnered with chevron oil company
\nto construct a chest clinic and the MDG to construct TB\/HIV\/AIDS\/malaria
\ntreatment and research centre located within the Amachara hospital.<\/p>\n
Speaking, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, prof. Augustus
\nMbanaso, thanked the Governor for transforming the health sector of the
\nstate as shown by the numerous health centres, changes in the general
\nhospitals in the state and the transformation at the Amachara Specialist
