Kwara State has emerged the champion of the maiden edition of<\/div>\n
North Central Zone Athletics Championship with a total of nine<\/div>\n
gold, five silver and two bronze medals.<\/div>\n
\n
The one day athletics championship which was powered by the 1st vice
\nPresident, Athletics Federation of Nigeria , Alhaji Tunde AbdulKareem
\nfeatured athletes from Kwara, Benue, Plateau, Niger states and FCT who
\ncompeted for cash rewards and honours in different categories.
\nThe event was held at the Main Bowl of the state stadium.
\nBenue came second with three gold, four silver and two bronze medals
\nwhile Plateau occupied the third position with one silver and five
\nbronze medals.
\nKogi and the FCT both jointly occupied the fourth position with silver
\nand a bronze medal each.
\nNiger which occupied the bottom of the medals table only managed a
\nbronze medal.
\nSpeaking at the occasion, the 1st vice President, Athletics Federation
\nof Nigeria, (AFN), Alhaji Tunde AbdulKareem, the championship was
\naimed at discovering more talents for future events.
\nHe appreciated the state government, sports council and the athletes
\nfor their support and participation, noting that he would continue to
\nsupport sports development in the State and the Country.<\/div>\n
