President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday in Abuja assured Nigerians that he
\nwould continue to work with them to move the country forward.<\/p>\n

He gave the assurance at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National
\nHeadquarters after picking the party`s nomination and expression of
\ninterest forms to recontest the presidency in 2015.<\/p>\n

The president said that no matter how strong a president was across the
\nworld, he was only an individual that on his own, could do nothing.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou alone cannot change the society. For you to succeed, you work with
\npeople; so if you are succeeding that means we have a team that is working
\nto transform this country.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I will work with all Nigerians to make sure that we move our country
\nto the next level,\u2019\u2019 the president said.<\/p>\n

He stressed that the days of saying that Nigeria was a potential great
\ncountry was over, adding that, \u201cNigeria is a great country\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n

This, he said, was demonstrated in the way the country collectively
\nhandled the Ebola case with the whole world being happy with Nigeria.<\/p>\n

President Jonathan, however, added that it was time for all hands to be on
\ndeck to move the country to the desired level in the years to come.<\/p>\n

He thanked Nigerians generally and reassured that his administration would
\nnot let the people down.<\/p>\n

The president also expressed gratitude to the PDP leadership for giving
\nhim the right of first refusal.<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst let me thank God for today and Nigerians that are here today for
\nthis brief ceremony.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet me thank the leadership and all members of our party for believing in
\nme and for giving me the right of first refusal.<\/p>\n

\u201cI could have still picked the forms if they did not give me, but giving
\nme the right of first refusal has attracted more people that ordinarily it
\nwould have had,\u2019\u2019 the president said.<\/p>\n

He specifically thanked the PDP national chairman and members of the
\nparty`s National Executive Committee (NEC) for unanimously endorsing the
\ndecision of its other organs that adopted him as the party`s sole
\ncandidate for the 2015 presidential election.<\/p>\n

The president also thanked the PDP Governors Forum for providing the N22
\nmillion for purchasing the nomination and expression of interest forms for
\nthe election.<\/p>\n

He further thanked members of the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria
\n(TAN) and other Nigerians for their contributions towards the purchase of
\nthe forms.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remain most grateful for their gesture and I thank them for believing
\nfirst in this country, secondly for believing in the PDP because they know
\nthat this form is for the PDP ticket and lastly, for believing in me,\u2019\u2019 he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n

Alhaji Adamu Mu`azu, the PDP National Chairman, however, expressed
\nhappiness at the occasion, adding that President Jonathan had made history
\nby coming to pick the forms himself.<\/p>\n

He, however, announced that the party leadership had decided to give
\nautomatic tickets to state governors running for second term, who had
\nperformed creditably well, to re-contest their position in 2015.<\/p>\n

According to him, the governors will be given the right of first refusal.<\/p>\n

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that President Jonathan was
\naccompanied by members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and PDP
\ngovernors, led by Gov. Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom and Chairman of the
\nPDP Governors Forum.<\/p>\n

Mr Richard Lamai, a senatorial aspirant from Edo North Senatorial
\nDistrict, had however, called on Nigerians to support the second term bid
\nof President Jonathan to enable him to continue his transformation agenda
\n(NAN)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
