Kwara State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed has, against the backdrop of<\/div>\n

the uproar generated by the Speaker of the House of Representatives,
\nAlhaji Aminu Tambuwal\u2019sdefection to the All Progressives Congress from
\nthe Peoples
\nDemocratic Party, said that it was the business of the judiciary and
\nnot that of any order organ of government to interpret laws and legal
\nimplication of political actions.<\/p>\n

Similarly, Gov.Ahmed questioned the
\nconstitutionality of the unilateral reduction in the allocations to
\nstates and local government councils by the federal government ,adding
\nthat it needed to
\nbe subjected to examination by the judiciary.<\/p>\n

Ahmed made these observations during the swearing-in of members of the
\nreconstituted Kwara State Judicial Service Commission, stressing that,
\n\u201cIt is the business of the judiciary and not that of
\nany other arm or organ of government to interpret laws of the land and
\nthe legal implication of political action such as cross carpeting at
\nthe National Assembly and indeed the Executive\u201d.<\/p>\n

He stressed that the unilateral reduction in the allocations due to
\nstates from the federation account, allegedly due to fluctuations in
\nglobal oil prices and oil theft, were gradually impoverishing states
\nand local governments, adding that the development could have dire
\nconsequences on the two tiers of government.<\/p>\n

According to Gov Ahmed, \u201cIf this situation is not addressed
\nunequivocally and quickly, the next few months will prove even more
\ndifficult for our state and indeed all others that are burdened by the
\nunsubstantiated cuts in the federation account allocation.<\/p>\n

In the event that these cuts in allocation are politically motivated,
\nthose behind it must be reminded that Kwara State is still part of
\nNigeria and our people, who are bearing the brunt of these draconian
\ncuts are bonafide Nigerians\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Governor, however, assured the State Civil Servants that the
\ngovernment would continue to explore all constitutional means to meet
\nobligations such as payment of salaries, even in the face of reduction
\nin the state\u2019s entitlement from the federal accounts by the federal
\ngovernment.<\/p>\n

Dr Ahmed described the State judiciary as one imbued with integrity,
\nincorruptibility, commitment and resilience.<\/p>\n
