The Borno State Governor, Mr. Kashim Shettima of on Tuesday expressed<\/p>\n
worry on how Boko Haram had taken over eight out of the 27 local
\ngovernment areas of the state.<\/p>\n
Shettima disclosed this while receiving members of the Federal Government
\nSub-committee of the Victims Supports Fund in Maiduguri.<\/p>\n
He said that the continued attacks on communities in the state had created
\nhardships on the people.<\/p>\n
Shettima said, \u201cThe insurgents have taken over nearly eight LGAs in the
\nstate.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey have taken over Gamboru-Ngala, Kala-Balge, Marte, Dikwa, Gwoza,
\nBama, Askira-Uba and part of Konduga local government areas.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe insurgents have also carried out recent attacks in Abadam, Kukawa.\u201d<\/p>\n
Shettima, however, expressed optimism that the insurgency would end in a
\nshort while, saying \u201cI strongly believe that there is light at the end of
\nthe tunnel.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are going to bounce back very soon by the grace of God.\u201d<\/p>\n
Speaking earlier, retired Air Marshal Jonah Wuyep, the sub-committee
\nchairman on data collection, had commended the governor for his supports
\nto insurgency victims.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe commend the responsible leadership of Shettima for what he has been
\ndoing in helping victims of insurgency in the state,\u201d Wuyep said.<\/p>\n
He said that the state alone could not be able to effectively provide help
\nto victims of insurgency, especially with the renewed attacks on villages.<\/p>\n
\u201cBorno alone cannot be able to handle the problems of Internally Displaced
\nPersons because lots of things needed to be done.<\/p>\n
Wuyep said, \u201cThe Federal Government will step in to provide supports to
\nthe IDPs.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe sub-committee was set up to gather data on the number of IDPs and
\ninfrastructure that were destroyed for government to intervene.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe president is worried about the plight of the IDPs that is why the
\nvictim support fund was inaugurated.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur sub-committee was set up to get the details on the ground so that
\ngovernment can intervene.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said that the sub-committee decided to visit Borno first because of the
