A group, Imo Patriotic Movement (IPM) has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the former governor of the state, Chief Ikedi Ohakim over purchase of alleged substandard transmitter for the Imo Broadcasting Corporation (IBC) and inflated cost ofroad projects during his tenure.<\/p>\n
In a release signed by the Leader, Mr. Frank Okwudo, the group alleged that the ex-governor secretly awarded the contract for the supply of the transmitters to Pinnacle Communication Limited at a cost of N776million.<\/p>\n
The transmitter which the group said, were installed on July 2008, was discovered to be substandard and never functioned well till date.<\/p>\n
According to the statement, Ohakim allegedly engaged construction companies like Zerock, Solid Foundation and CODUC, to siphon funds from the state government.<\/p>\n
These companies constructed many roads amounting to billions of naira with less kilometers such as Standard Shoe Industry road, up to Amulu Mbieri, a 15km which Ohakim said cost over N2billion as against N87million real estimate,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d the group alleged.<\/p>\n
The group further that revenue that accrued to the Imo Municipal Transport system were also diverted into private pockets while CODUC construction company \u00c2 owned by Ohakim’s in-law, Mr. Chinedu Chukwunonye turned the road maintenance agency, IRROMA, into an avenue for looting state funds.<\/p>\n
The Managing Director of CODUC construction company, Mr. Chinedu Chukwunonye was living in Aguda, Surulere in Lagos and relocated to Owerri when his in-law Ohakim became governor. CODUC Construction Company later transformed into one of the biggest companies in the industry parading state of the art equipment worth over N7billion, the group alleged.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
