Majority leader of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Hon. Peter Akpe Saturday emerged the Peoples\u2019 Democratic Party, PDP flag bearer for Sagbama constituency I in next year\u2019s State House of Assembly elections.<\/p>\n
Declaring the results at Ebedebiri and Angiama ward 5 in Sagbama, chairman of the PDP electoral panel for Bayelsa, Hon.
\nHamisu Abubakar said Mr. Romeo Ebizimor, the only other candidate, who vied for the ticket polled just a single vote, while one vote was declared invalid.<\/p>\n
The panel chairman, who described the process as transparent, free and fair, noted that, Hon.
\nAkpe polled majority of the votes cast, having polled a total of 23 votes and therefore emerged winner.<\/p>\n
Speaking shortly after the exercise, Bayelsa State Governor, Hon.
\nSeriake Dickson, who also participated as a super delegate, congratulated Hon.
\nAkpe for his victory, while also commending his opponent, Mr.
\nEbizimor for his show of sportsmanship and called on others to emulate his mature disposition.
\nAccording to him, the transparent manner the primaries were conducted and the emergence of Hon.
\nAkpe as the representative of Sagbama constituency, one for another term in the State legislature, was an eloquent testimony that no candidate was imposed on the people.
\nCommending delegates and party faithful for their peaceful disposition, Governor Dickson stated that, preliminary reports available to him indicates that, the primaries across the state were free, fair and credible and urged party stalwarts to work in harmony to achieve success for the party at all levels.
\nResponding, the two contestants, Hon.
\nAkpe and Mr.
\nEbizimor expressed appreciation to the people for their support and promised to work together for the progress of the party and the constituency.<\/p>\n
