Senator Ben Ayade yesterday emerged the governorship candidate of the<\/p>\n
Cross River State Peoples Democratic Party PDP after defeating five other
\naspirants of the party.<\/p>\n
In what could be described as a landslide, Senator Ayade trounced other
\ncontestants who included former NNPC General Manager, Crude Oil Marketing,
\nMr Goddy Jedy Agba, Rev. Father Francis Eworo, Doctor Peter Oti, pioneer
\nPDP National Publicity Secretary, Emmanuel Ebeshi and Mr. Joe Agi.<\/p>\n
Four other aspirants had earlier withdrawn from the primaries, and
\ndeclared their support to Ayade. They included Executive Secretary,
\nNational Planning Commission, Ntufam Fidelis Ugbo, immediate past
\nSecretary to the Government, Barrister Mike Ania, immediate past
\nCommissioner for Works, Barrister Legor Idagbo and Speaker of the House of
\nAssembly, Rt. Hon. Larry Odey.<\/p>\n
According to the result as announced by the Chairman of the electoral
\npanel and Returning Officer, Chief Olusola Akanmode, Senator Ayade scored
\n752 out of 782 votes cast. He was subsequently declared Ayade winner by
\nthe electoral panel Chairman.<\/p>\n
Barrister Agi scored\u2026.votes to place second while Jedy Agba and Rev Father
\nEworo scored five votes each. Both Peter Oti and Emmanuel scored zero vote<\/p>\n
Ayade, a serving Senator representing Cross River North Senatorial
\nDistrict, is the Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Environment and
\nEcology.<\/p>\n
He is also member, Senate Committees on Education, Marine Transport,
\nPetroleum Downstream, Drugs\/Narcotics\/Crime.<\/p>\n
He is a Professor of Microbiology and also holds a degree in law.<\/p>\n
