A chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Goddy<\/p>\n
Okoro, has called on those who are excited about the emergence of former
\nHead of State, General Muhammadu Buhari, as the presidential candidate of
\nthe All Progressives Congress (APC) to calm down as his candidature is
\ntainted and imperiled by the records of his main sponsor, Asiwaju Bola
\nTinubu.
\nOkoro said in Abuja that \u201cthe public perception of Tinubu as a corrupt
\npolitician and his undisguised role in influencing the process that threw
\nup Buhari as the candidate of the APC have done great damage to the
\nintegrity of Buhari, thus weakening his candidature.\u201d
\nHe said he was surprised that Buhari, who is aware of this \u201cstrong public
\nperception\u201d, would ignore it and submit himself to the control of the
\nformer Lagos governor \u201cjust because of his desperation to become
\npresident.\u201d
\nAccording to him, \u201cOnce again, Bola Tinubu, the undertaker-in-chief, has
\noutsmarted the pretenders to the APC presidential ticket. They were all
\ndeceived into believing there was a chance despite the fact that a deal
\nhad been struck with Buhari and agreements reached on who would have vice
\npresidential nomination power.”
\nOkoro also slammed the APC as being incompetent and lacking in planning as
\nit took the party 24 hours in a stadium to conduct an election of a few
\nthousand delegates.
\nHe said, \u201cI watched as the elderly delegates, women and men were loitering
\nfor hours doing nothing. They were subjected to a display of incompetence
\nand lack of planning; a poorly thought out process. This, to me, is
\nhardly the way to showcase a Party ready to run a country like Nigeria.
\nOur small Party APGA will do better.
\n\u201cCan you imagine? Having entered the Teslim Balogun Stadium the day
\nbefore, it was not until the afternoon of Thursday 11 December that a
\nresult could be declared, apparently an anti climax after the drudgery.
\n\u201cAfter the announcement of result, APC leaders struggled to make sure they
\nwere visible in the photos, hustling for position on the stage whilst a
\nvisibly shaken Atiku Abubakar, who traversed the nooks and crannies of the
\ncountry canvassing for delegates\u2019 votes, only to be undercut by the
\nendorsement of Buhari by 12 governors, which was facilitated by Tinubu,
\nsurveyed the aftermath of betrayal by several of the very same people that
\nstood around him.\u201d
\nHe added, \u201cI sympathise with Atiku, a tested politician, who was never an
\noption but it was important to keep him within the fold after his defeat
\nhence the clever move of insisting that all the candidates sign a bond
\nbefore the primaries, promising not to leave the party if defeated;
\nperhaps, the Jada-born politician would have left by now for his Peoples
\nDemocratic Movement (PDM).\u201d<\/p>\n
