\nTens of thousands of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters across the
\nSouth West would converge on the Tafawa Balewa Square grounds in Lagos for
\nthe flag-off of the Jonathan\/Sambo presidential campaigns on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The two governors of the PDP in the South West, Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo
\nand Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti will be joined by party leaders from the zone
\nto host the president and all other party leaders from other parts of the
\ncountry. Governorship candidates of the party will also be presented to
\nthe public at the campaign ground.<\/p>\n
While President Goodluck Jonathan is expected to seize the opportunity to
\napprise the people of the zone of the successes recorded by his
\ngovernment, he will also take the chance to woo the people of the region,
\nreputed to be the most politically sophisticated in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
Sources close to the organizers of the event quoted a top organizer who
\nsaid \u201cwill remind the people of the region of how his government remodeled
\nthe General Aviation Terminal (GAT) in Ikeja, the Murtala Muhammed
\nInternational Airport wing, and is reconstructing the Lagos-Ibadan
\nExpressway, which for the last decade or more has been left in a sorry
\nstate.<\/p>\n
He is also expected to speak about the steady and fast intervention in the
\nrail sector with the return of railways with new train engines and luxury
\ncoaches, as well as the reconstruction of the Apapa\/Oshodi Expressway,
\nleading to the nation\u2019s ports\u201d.<\/p>\n
The choice of Tafawa Balewa Square as venue, PDP sources said was because
\nit hosted the ceremonies of Nigeria’s independence as well as being in
\nLagos where the largest number of voters reside in the country. One PDP
\nleader said it is also not going to be about politics alone as musicians
\nand comedians are expected to grace the event.<\/p>\n
