An eminent scholar, Professor Dupe Olatubosun, has advised the<\/p>\n
presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Major
\nGeneral Muhammadu Buhari to \u201chonourably withdraw\u201d from the race to pave
\nway for \u201ca qualified person\u201d from the party.<\/p>\n
Professor Olatubosun threatened to approach the court to seek Buhari\u2019s
\ndisqualification, should the Katsina-born politician \u201cfail to follow the
\npath of honour.\u201d<\/p>\n
The scholar spoke in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday, anchoring his position
\non what he called the non-qualification of Buhari to stand for the
\nelection because he failed to tender his secondary school certificate of
\neducation as required by laws.<\/p>\n
\u201cNigeria cannot afford to take such a very serious gamble of allowing a
\nprimary school certificate holder to lead the nation in 2015. It is
\nunthinkable and absolutely unacceptable.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo be educated up to school certificate level is a necessary condition
\nfor General Buhari or anyone who aspires to be Nigeria\u2019s president.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf Buhari cannot present his secondary school certificate, all he needs
\nto do is to go to the secondary school he attended and obtain a certified
\ntrue copy of his result from the school record, if he ever attended any
\nsecondary school.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf General Buhari cannot provide evidence that he is qualified to contest
\nthe election as prescribed by the combined effects of Sections 131 and 137
\nof the 1999 Constitution as amended, then ,he is not qualified to
\ncontest,\u201d Olatubosun said.<\/p>\n
On Pastor Tunde Bakare\u2019s call for a transitional government, the retired
\nprofessor said such call was borne out of selfishness and a ploy to reward
\nthose who have \u201cunleashed the dogs of war\u201d in some parts of the country
\nwith membership of a coalition government.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey cannot get through the back door what they cannot obtain
\nlegitimately through the front door. A coalition of PDP and APC in
\ngovernment can never work satisfactorily in the interest of Nigerians,\u201d he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The don described as untrue, claims that a tempest was gathering that
\nwould necessitate the need to avoid a shipwreck in the country, adding
\nthat the insurgency in the North-East was being orchestrated by \u201cthose who
\nbelieve the nation\u2019s leadership is their birthright.\u201d<\/p>\n
