{"id":35190,"date":"2015-01-21T13:57:55","date_gmt":"2015-01-21T12:57:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=35190"},"modified":"2015-01-21T13:57:55","modified_gmt":"2015-01-21T12:57:55","slug":"buhari-explains-perjury-says-attended-government-college-lists-yaradua-classmate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/buhari-explains-perjury-says-attended-government-college-lists-yaradua-classmate\/","title":{"rendered":"Buhari\u00a0\u00a0explains his \u00a0perjury, says he\u00a0 attended Government College, Lists Yar\u2019Adua, as classmate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">General Muhammadu Buhari, on\u00a0 Wednesday\u00a0\u00a0 in Kano,\u00a0 described the controversies surrounding his academic qualifications as unnecessary.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Buhari said he attended Government College in Katsina and listed late General Umaru Yar\u2019Adua and retired Justice of the Court of Appeal, Justice Umar Abdullahi as his classmates.<\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The school was formerly known as Provisional Secondary School.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">This was how he explained why he lied on oath &#8220;I had assumed all along that all my records were in the custody of the Military Secretary of the Nigerian Army&#8221;<\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">He did not explain the contradiction in the letter of recommendation from his principal which suggests he had not graduated at the time he went to the Nigeria Military School, and his current claim.<\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Buhari said &#8221; I graduated in 1961 with many prominent Nigerians, including General Shehu Yar\u2019Adua, former chief of staff at the Supreme Headquarters, and Justice Umaru Abdullahi, a former President of the Court of Appeal. We sat for the University of Cambridge\/WASC Examination together in 1961, the year we graduated. My examination number was 8280002, and I passed the examination in the Second Division&#8221;<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">But the recommendation letter contradicts Buharis claim when it \u00a0said &#8220;\u201cI recommend him fit for military commissioning, I consider that he will pass the WASC examination in English, Math and three other subjects&#8221;<\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said the institution will publish his academic records in national newspapers soon.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The singular act of being dishonest under oath is perjury.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Full text<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div>&#8220;I only consented to address you this morning because of the genuine concern expressed by many supporters and other well-meaning Nigerians that the issue be addressed. Otherwise, I would have dismissed it for what it is \u2013 sheer mischief and would not have considered it an issue worth the nation\u2019s while.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I had assumed all along that all my records were in the custody of the Military Secretary of the Nigerian Army. Much to my surprise, we are now told that although a record of the result is available, there are no copies of the certificates in my personal file. This is why I formally requested my old school the Provincial Secondary School, Katsina [which is now known as Government College, Katsina] to make available the school\u2019s copy of the result of the Cambridge\/West African School Certificate. This will be made available to the press the moment this is available.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, before we obtain that, let me say for the record that I attended Provincial Secondary School, Katsina. I graduated in 1961 with many prominent Nigerians, including General Shehu Yar\u2019Adua, former chief of staff at the Supreme Headquarters, and Justice Umaru Abdullahi, a former President of the Court of Appeal. We sat for the University of Cambridge\/WASC Examination together in 1961, the year we graduated. My examination number was 8280002, and I passed the examination in the Second Division.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">And although the ruling party may want to wish this away, the issue in this campaign cannot be my certificate which I obtained 53 years ago.
