Concerned members ask him to step aside as steering committee chair
\nConcerned members of Benin Forum have passed a vote of no confidence in
\nthe chairman of the Steering Committee of the Forum, Chief David Edebiri,
\nthe Esogban of Benin Kingdom, for his inability to properly manage the
\naffairs of the Forum in accordance with its constitution.<\/p>\n
This was sequel to Edebiri\u2019s campaign that Benin people should not vote
\nfor President Goodluck Jonathan for a second term in office, contrary to
\nthe position and direction of His Royal Majesty, the Omo N\u2019oba Erediauwa
\nThey have asked Edebiri to step aside as chairman of the steering
\ncommittee within 72 hours beginning from Monday, February 16. The
\nultimatum expires today, Wednesday, February 18, 2015.<\/p>\n
These positions, taken at a meeting in Benin last Sunday convened by
\nPrince S. Ebuwa, Prince (Dr) Francis Omo-Osunde Iyasere, Colonel Edward
\nIgbinidu (who represented Benin Retired Military Officers), Lawrence
\nIgbinosun and Lucky Osahon, were contained in a press statement signed by
\nthe Director of Media of the Forum, Barrister Osamwonyi Osagiede.<\/p>\n
According to the statement: \u201cChief David Edebiri should be reminded that
\nsome months ago, our revered Benin monarch, Omo N\u2019oba Nedo
\nUku-Akpolokpolor, Oba of benin, who appointed him and twenty-three other
\nprominent Benin sons and daughters, who are members of different political
\nparties to oversee the affairs of the Forum, sent the crown prince
\n(Eheneden Erediauwa) to President Jonathan to express his support for the
\nre-election of Mr President and his constant prayers for his victory at
\nthe polls.<\/p>\n
\u201cTherefore, it is odiously mischievous and rude for anyone for that matter
\nto assume another position.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe concerned members of the Benin Forum rose from an emergency meeting
\non Sunday, 15th February, 2015 in Benin City to re-emphasize the
\nimportance of the Forum and its undiluted role is supposed to play for the
\nentire Beni people. The members salute the Founder of the Benin Forum,
\nHis Royal Majesty, Omo N\u2019oba Nedo, Oba Erediauwa, CFR.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe concerned members reviewed the journey and activities of the Forum
\nsince inception; and specifically, the dragging of the Bini Forum to
\npolitical arena by the steering committee under the chairmanship of Chief
\nDavid Edebiri, who always uses the organisation to enrich himself to the
\ndetriment of the Benin people.<\/p>\n
\u201cRight from time, he has single-handed used our most revered Benin
\nmonarch\u2019s name to score political points for his selfish interest.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Forum said that Edebiri\u2019s push that Benin people should not vote for
\nPresident Jonathan \u201cis totally unacceptable as it amounts to undermining
\nthe sanctity and authority of the Benin monarch. To every Benin man, the
\npronouncement and direction of the Benin monarch is sacrosanct.<\/p>\n
\u201cChief Edebiri\u2019s reaction to Patrick Eholor\u2019s position that he (Edebiri)
\nwas speaking for the gods is most amusing and funny: when has he become
\nthe chief priest of Benin Kingsdom or Ohen?\u201d<\/p>\n
The Forum reminded Edebiri about how Buhari truncated the tenure of the
\ndemocratically-elected civilian government of Alhaji Shehu Shagari and the
\ngovernorship mandate of a prominent son of Benin Kingdom, Dr Samuel
\nOgbemudia, three months into office in 1983<\/p>\n
It said if the gods have asked Edebiri to tell Benins to vote for the same
\nman (Buhari), \u201cthen there is more to it than meets the eye; and it is
