Guardian News – Houston, TX – With less than six weeks to the general
\nelections, campaign activities of All Progressives Congress (APC) have
\nsuffered another setback over a tenaciously weakening health of its flag
\nbearer, Muhammadu Buhari. The ex-general was secretly rushed to the United
\nKingdom for treatment, aboard a British Airways, according to authentic
\nparty sources.<\/p>\n

Buhari\u2019s travel arrangement was made by a few close confidants under an
\nemergency circumstance, and shielded from the key members of the campaign.
\nThe information it was gathered made it to the media quicker than
\nexpected, throwing the entire campaign into confusion. As of press time,
\nthe campaign is grounded in confusion, leaving inadvertent activities to
\nsmall party groups and social media cliques with little or no knowledge of
\nprecise materials that represent the party objectives.<\/p>\n

A regional campaign leader who came to Abuja for a meeting, told
\nInternational Guardian under strict anonymity, that his meeting was
\ncancelled without any specific reasons. \u201cThat is unusual to me, because
\nthis is a very crucial moment in this campaign and not a period to be
\ntravelling up and down,\u201d he said. Other campaign leaders have voiced out
\ncondemnation of a lack of transparency about campaign activities. For
\ninstance, a campaign consultant attached to the social media told our
\nreporter expressed similar concerns, saying \u201cWe really need to get
\neverybody on the same page. We are all not just focusing in the right
\ndirection. How can I defend the fact that my presidential candidate left
\nabroad just like that to meet who? Why the rush and why the secrecy?\u201d<\/p>\n

To unstiffen the blows created by the embarrassment, the Director, Media
\nand Publicity Directorate of campaign, Mallam Garba Shehu claimed the
\ngeneral had travelled to the UK for official reasons. According to his
\nstatement, \u201cBuhari would hold meetings with key members of the British
\npolitical establishment and interact with some global institutions with
\nstakeholder interest in the affairs of Nigeria.\u201d The statement further
\nclaimed that \u201cGeneral Buhari will hopefully give a talk at the prestigious
\nforeign policy hub, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham
\nHouse in London.\u201d<\/p>\n

Excuses from the Buhari\u2019s camp, it was gathered,\u00a0 angered some campaign
\nmembers close to Buhari\u2019s running mate, Dr. Yemi Osinbajo who were
\noutraged that even the aspiring vice president was always left out of
\nmajor party activities and decisions. \u201cYou can imagine the insult \u2013 yes I
\nmean the insult that, in my position in this campaign,\u00a0 I have to read
\neverything about the campaign in the social media. If the man is sick \u2013 so
\nwhat? We should be working as a party not as individuals,\u201d another
\naggrieved APC senior campaign member told our field reporter in Abuja. He
\ncontinued, \u201cHow can a presidential candidate travel abroad for whatever
\nreason without telling his running mate? This is exactly what happened
\nduring the Yar\u2019Adua regime, and you can see the same thing repeating
\nitself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Buhari\u2019s campaign activities have suffered a severe setback recently over
\npoor health. Last month, videos of his fragile comportment, lack of
\nmemory, and speech inaudibility were circulated in the social media \u2013
\ncreating another major distraction among his campaign team. Last month,
\nInternational Guardian reported how speculations that Buhari\u2019s may not
\nmake it through a four-year term if he won because of a visibly
\ndeteriorating health fuelled a suspicious relationship between General
\nBuhari\u2019s camp and Dr. Osibanjo. Buhari had allegedly accused the
\nTinubi\/Osibanjo camp of praying for his death \u2013 a situation similar to the
\nlate President Shehu Musa Yar’Adua when critics accused former President
\nOlusegun Obasanjo of nominating a sick candidate to jeopardize chances
\nallotted to the Northern zone in the party.<\/p>\n

Another distractive bombshell of the Buhari campaign came up when a
\nrevelation made by Buhari\u2019s former running mate in the 2011 election, Dr.
\nTunde Bakare to Kadaria Ahmed, the host of Straight talk with Kadaria
\nconfirm a reported scam proposed to him under a merger of the Congress for
\nthe Progressive Change (CPC) and Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in
\nthe 2011 presidential race.\u00a0 Prophetic-Apostolic pastor revealed how he
\nwas actually persuaded to sign a resignation letter as the vice president
\nahead of a possible election victory, but he rejected the offer as
\n\u201cillegal\u201d and \u201cperjury.\u201d The video clip resurfaced in the social media
\ncreating another round of discord within the Buhari\u2019s campaign, and
\nfuelling\u00a0 rumors that Dr.\u00a0 Osinbajo may have accepted a similar deal prior
\nto his nomination \u2013 a claim Osinbajo\u2019s camp categorically denied.<\/p>\n
