The National Publicity Secretary of the ACN, Mr Lai Mohammed, has urged political leaders to be liberal in the use of the political power they control.<\/p>\n
Mohammed made the plea\u00a0 on Tuesday in Ibadan at an interactive programme organised by the Oyo State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ).<\/p>\n
The ACN spokesman, who called for the “ democratisation of power\u2019\u2019
\nlinked the success of\u00a0 a nation\u2019s economy to the way political leaders choose to manage power.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is not true that some nations are so developed because of their culture, climate or geography.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey are developed nations\u00a0 because of the way and manner they have managed their political power.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen a nation practises a liberal political system, it will automatically have a liberal economy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He also urged political leaders\u00a0 to concentrate on building lasting political institutions and beliefs instead of building personalities.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople will die, but institutions will live forever,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Reacting to the inclusion of the opposition in the administration of local councils\u00a0 in Oyo State, the ACN scribe said it was a step taken in the right direction.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe governor is the best person to know exactly how he wants to administer his state.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd believe me; I think we should give kudos to\u00a0 an ACN governor for running an inclusive government.<\/p>\n
\u201cNaturally, some of the ACN members will feel aggrieved, but as of today, Ajimobi is the governor of not just ACN, but the governor of Oyo State,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Mohammed also addressed issues of\u00a0 frequent foreign trips made by some governors ostensibly\u00a0 to woo investors.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome of the governors make these trips to canvass for funds and technical support for projects that will benefit their people.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese trips are far from being honeymoon and although it is too early to see the results, at the end of the day, it will impact positively on the people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Mohammed, however, said that to secure the interest\u00a0 of foreign investors, the nation\u2019s security and infrastructural challenges must be addressed. (NAN)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
