The Federal Government has stated that, \u2018Foreign investment commitments in<\/p>\n
Nigeria have, in recent years, risen to almost Five Trillion Naira.\u2019
\n\u2018Agriculture is finally on the way to taking its rightful place as a major
\nsource of economic growth and revenue\u2019. \u2018Manufacturing, Industrial and
\ninfrastructural development are also seeing tremendous progress.\u2019<\/p>\n
The Vice President, Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo stated this while
\nrepresenting President Goodluck Jonathan at the Grand Finale of the
\nPressPlay Empowerment Seminar at the Banquet Hall, State House, Abuja.<\/p>\n
Vice President Sambo said that, \u2018these facts indicate that the government
\nis on the irreversible lane of progress and gaining traction in the task
\nof moving Nigeria forward.\u2019 He called on the youths to key in and \u2018take
\ntheir place in the joint task of nation building\u2019, saying, \u2018the task of
\nbuilding a nation is a responsibility for all citizens.\u2019<\/p>\n
The Vice President explained that, \u2018the PressPlay Initiative programmes
\npromote positive empowerment of young people, so they can maximize their
\npotentials which are assets to our development as a country.\u2019 He pointed
\nout that more opportunities than ever, have today been created by
\ngovernment agencies and policies for youths to find support for their
\ninnovations and business ventures, stressing that PressPlay introduces
\nyoung people to some of these programs. The Vice President encouraged them
\nto make efforts to participate. He pledged government\u2019s dedication to
\ncreate a conducive environment for prosperity.<\/p>\n
He enumerated the achievements of the government in the past four years to
\ninclude tremendous progress in critical sectors of the economy as the
\nsuccessful power sector reforms; commendable overhaul of the transport
\nsector; special industrialization plans etc.<\/p>\n
Vice President Sambo implored all Nigerians to come out and vote on
\nelection day as our collective responsibility and stressed that, \u2018violence
\nor intimidation will not be acceptable\u2019.<\/p>\n
Earlier the Minister of Trade, Industry and Investment, Olusegun Aganga
\nstated that the government has identified major problems of youths such as
\nunemployment. He stated that the first ever Presidential Jobs Board was
\ninaugurated by this government and is chaired by Vice President Sambo. The
\nBoard has the mandate of creating at least two million jobs a year and so
\nfar have done creditably well in meeting this target.<\/p>\n
Angela Jones, the Co-ordinator, PressPlay said the initiative is geared at
\nencouraging youths to be creative, resourceful and key into
\nentrepreneurship to become future employers of labour. She acknowledged
\nthe support given the initiative towards achieving their goals by the
\ngovernment. She advised the youths to occupy themselves in meaningful
\nventures in life to sustain their integrity.<\/p>\n
Other dignitaries present included the Minister of Women Affairs, Zainab
\nMaina, Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau, Chairman, Senate Committee
\non Trade and Investment, Nenadi Usman, Head of the Civil Service of the
\nFederation, Danladi Kifasi, Nigerian students, Nigerian youth
\nentrepreneurs amongst others.<\/p>\n
