The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the economic future of the nation<\/p>\n
is guaranteed under President Goodluck Jonathan citing his unprecedented
\nperformance in wealth creation as well as strategies already mapped out
\nfor continued economic and social growth in the country.<\/p>\n
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh in a statement, Sunday, said
\nthe multi-sectoral development approach adopted by the Jonathan
\nadministration resulted in a stronger economy, which not only withstood
\nthe shock of the global financial downturn that ravaged most nations of
\nthe world, but also created an exceptional enabling environment and
\nsupport for investments and businesses to thrive in the country.
\nThe party said that it is undisputable that INVESTORS and entrepreneurs in
\nthe country have fared better, more than ever before, in the last four
\nyears under President Goodluck Jonathan making the nation the largest
\neconomy in Africa and one of the fastest growing in the world, \u201ca fact
\nbusinessmen, even those in the opposition cannot contest\u201d.<\/p>\n
Stressing that \u201cno body changes a winning team just for the sake of
\nchange\u201d, the PDP said what the nation needs at the moment is \u201can
\nuninterrupted flow of the transformation effort which can only be best
\nhandled by a President Goodluck Jonathan-led PDP administration,
\nespecially as the opposition has failed to articulate any workable
\nalternative to Nigerians\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe restate that our nation has been blessed with the meticulous
\napplication of deliberate economic policies and programmes in the last
\nfour years under President Jonathan\u2019s Transformation Agenda. Within this
\nperiod, there has been a phenomenal growth of small and medium scale
\nenterprises in addition to the revamping of the manufacturing sector with
\nunprecedented volume of domestic and direct foreign investments empowering
\nour people in all walks of life.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe fact remains that in the last four years under Jonathan, more
\nbusinesses have been opened in telecommunication, banking, oil and gas,
\ntransport, aviation, hospitality, automobile, education, agriculture,
\nhealthcare and manufacturing sectors with an unprecedented expansion rate,
\nproviding business and employment opportunities for millions of our
\ncitizens across the country\u201d, the party said.<\/p>\n
The observed that this was made possible by the application of a
\nmulti-sectoral development strategy of the Jonathan administration in the
\ncritical sectors and direct government empowerment interventions through
\nprogrammes such as YouWin and SURE-P Graduate Internship Scheme among
\nothers.
\n\u201cWith the huge investment in power and road infrastructure, the return of
\nthe railways and inland waterways ferrying millions of passengers and
\ntonnes of goods across the country; the repositioning of the aviation
\nindustry, the rapid expansion in the telecommunication sector; the
\nunequalled INVESTMENT in agriculture with food production exceeding the
\ntargeted 20 million metric tons in 2015; the revamping of the
\nmanufacturing sector with automobile companies such as Innoson Kia, Nissan
\nand Hyundai setting up factories in Nigeria, in addition to the reopening
\nof Peugeot and ANMACO, the future of Nigerian businesses is secure and
\nready to move to the next level of expansion under a Jonathan
\nadministration\u201d, the statement said.<\/p>\n
The party noted that the guarantee of a more prosperous future is
\nstrengthened by the Nagropreneurs Initiative of the Jonathan
\nadministration, the N220 billion Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises
\nDevelopment Fund to empower graduates and other young people to own their
\nown businesses, the National industrial Revolution Plan (NIRP), and the
\nNational Enterprise Development Programme (NEDEP) expected to generate no
\nfewer than five million direct jobs before the end of 2015.\u201d

The PDP pointed out that apart from employment generation, the revolution
\nin these key sectors also guarantees technology transfer, reduction in
\ncosts and increase in investment opportunities.<\/p>\n
The party said the next four years under Jonathan will see a maximum yield
\nin the development efforts especially given the measures already put in
\nplace by the administration to plug loopholes, such as the introduction of
\nthe independent revenue e-collection scheme under the Treasury Single
\nAccount, an automated system for greater monitoring and control of
\nspending in government ministries, departments and agencies across board.<\/p>\n
It therefore urged Nigerians to remain steadfast and not relent in their
\nsupport for the President but to fully demonstrate it by coming out
\nenmasse to vote for him and other PDP candidates in the March 28 and April
\n11 elections.<\/p>\n
