The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has raised the alarm that the state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, was planing to flout the Electoral Law as he has hired a helicopter he wants to use during the presidential election slated for Saturday.<\/p>\n

The party also alleged that Governor Oshiomhole spends between N400 and N500million every month to tackle security challenges in the state even when reports from security agencies showed that Edo State was not experiencing security challenges like the states in the North East geopolitical zone.<\/p>\n

Edo State chairman of the party, Chief Dan Orbih, stated this at a media briefing, where he highlighted reasons why the electorate in Edo State should vote for President Goodluck Jonathan.<\/p>\n

He also alerted security operatives in the state to the governor’s plan to use helicopter, warning that such move was dangerous and inimical to having a free and fair elections.<\/p>\n

“The governor should be advised to comply with the restriction on movement on election days. We are totally opposed to his movement on election days, either by road or by air,” he noted.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that the government of Governor Oshiomhole stinks of corruption and that the governor wasted the state’s resources on frivolous foreign trips that have not yielded results.<\/p>\n

“We have seen in the past six years of Oshiomhole’s government an unbelievable level of corruption. In fact, the administration is a classic example of how a corrupt government looks like.<\/p>\n

“He would sign money showing that he was embarking on 14-day trip but will come back to the country after three days. In all these trips, he signed $10,000 for security and another $10,000 for transport.<\/p>\n

“We have series of vouchers showing the various trips the governor embarked upon in the guise of looking for foreign investors.<\/p>\n

“We challenge Oshiomhole to show us the foreign investors he has attracted through these trips and where the investments are located,” Orbih asked.<\/p>\n

On the presidential election, he said there was need for the electorate in Edo State to vote for President Jonathan because “he has shown great commitment to the unity of the country, tolerance in the face of destructive criticism and commitment to the development of the country.”<\/p>\n

Edo State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Godwin Erhahon, however, denied PDP claim on the money the governor spent on security, describing it as a mere speculation.<\/p>\n

He said, “if there is restriction on the election days and the governor as the chief security officer of the state decided to use helicopter for his movement to ensure maintenance of law and order, there is nothing wrong with that.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
