Lagos \u2013 Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Zone 2 Command, Mr
\nJoseph Mbu, said any persons found involved in election violence in Ogun
\nand Lagos States would be made to face the wrath of the law.<\/p>\n
Mbu issued the warning after a meeting with Commissioners of Police (CP)
\nand their Deputies (DCP) under his command at Zone 2 headquarters, Onikan,
\nLagos, on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The AIG said the zone was well prepared for the forthcoming general
\nelections, warning thugs and their sponsors against fueling any violence.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnybody found with dangerous weapon \u2013 firearm, cutlass, axe or anything
\nthat can cause injury to a person, will be demobilised and such weapons
\nforcefully recover from them.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know that thugs are getting ready and planning to snatch ballot boxes
\nor card readers; it is a very serious offence and whoever tries it will
\nmeet his waterloo. The police will repel whoever attempts to do that.<\/p>\n
\u201cAny political thugs or group financed for the purpose of election
\nviolence should re-think because we are not going to take it lightly with
\nsuch people.<\/p>\n
We will not spare them and their sponsors\u2019\u2019, Mbu warned.<\/p>\n
Mbu said the zone had enough manpower to prosecute the elections,
\nstressing that they were prepared to protect lives and property before,
\nduring and after the exercise.<\/p>\n
Mbu explained that the meeting was to look into their preparation with a
\nview to sharing more information on the best way to provide security for
\nOgun and Lagos states.<\/p>\n
He said apart from police, the Department of State Service, National
\nSecurity and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria
\nCustoms Service, will also provide security for the states.<\/p>\n
Mbu appealed to residents of the zone to go out and vote without any fear
\nof intimidation, stressing that there were enough security men to police
\nall areas.<\/p>\n
He warned politicians against inciting their followers against others,
\nstressing that no candidate would be allowed to use siren, arms and guards
\nto polling booths on election days.<\/p>\n
He also appealed to traditional rulers and clerics to talk to their
\nsubjects to eschew violence, stressing that all the known black spots for
\nelection violence had been taken care of.<\/p>\n
He said it was the voters\u2019 choice to wait or leave after casting their
\nballot as long as they maintained peace.<\/p>\n
Mbu warned that except those accredited to move around to monitor, no
\nother person or group would be permitted to move anywhere during the
\nelections.<\/p>\n
He called on the media to consider national security and peace above other
\nthings, and to cross check information before publishing.<\/p>\n
The representatives came from Lagos, Ogun, Railway, Port Authority,
\nAirport, Special Fraud Unit, Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Marine,
