Rivers State Governor and Director-General of Buhari campaign
\norganization, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has disclosed plans by the
\nstate to set up a Judicial Commission of Enquiry to look into violent
\ndeaths of some Rivers citizens in the March 28 Presidential Election.<\/p>\n
He made the disclosure at the weekend while addressing APC supporters
\nduring a victory rally in Obio\/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.<\/p>\n
He said their deaths would be avenged by the law in line with his
\nadministration\u2019s resolve to protect lives and property.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis morning, I got approval from the Executive Council to set up a
\njudicial commission of enquiry to investigate those deaths that happened
\nbefore election, during election and after election.\u00a0 Anybody found guilty
\nwill go to jail.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t set up administrative enquiry.\u00a0 I set up
\njudicial commission of enquiry.\u00a0 It means that the man sitting there is
\nsitting as a judge.\u00a0 He is not sitting as chairman, he is sitting as a
\njudge, if you are found guilty, straight to jail\u201d.<\/p>\n
He bemoaned police brutal actions on innocent voters in the state during
\nthe March 28 Presidential election.<\/p>\n
He however said next Saturday\u2019s gubernatorial election in the state would
\nbe peaceful, free and fair with the new tide across the country following
\nvictory at the polls of General Muhammadu Buhari in the country\u2019s March 28
\nPresidential Election.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis time, election will be peaceful, free and fair. Last time, we saw
\npolicemen thumb printing for them.\u00a0 This time they will not.\u00a0 If they do
\nthat, take their name, take their number, record them for us\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n
He described the March 28 election day as freedom day for all Nigerians.
\nHe also said there would be no more arbitrary arrests by the police in
\nRivers State.<\/p>\n
Amaechi said he is justified in leaving PDP for the APC, describing his
\naction as his best political choice at the time.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople blamed me for leaving PDP to APC and I said they are wrong.\u00a0 They
\nare wrong because God has directed that we should move to APC and because
\nGod said I have left them\u201d.<\/p>\n
He reiterated that President-elect Gen. Buhari would not Islamize Nigeria.<\/p>\n
On APC\u2019s Presidential victory, Amaechi said it was God\u2019s will for the
\ncountry.<\/p>\n
\u201cI made it clear that God has said we would win Saturday\u2019s election and I
\nsaid we would be fighting with police and army but God would be behind us
\nand if God is behind us, we would win, didn\u2019t we win?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThey went to Churches to preach, they went to incite our people in
\nchurches and said that Buhari is a Muslim, he will Islamize Nigeria, and I
\nsaid I didn\u2019t see that.\u00a0 I said to them I am a Christian, I am a Catholic,
\nnobody can Islamize me.\u00a0 This afternoon, I observed the Catholic
\nceremonies for Good Friday.\u00a0 On Sunday, I will go to Church to pray to my
\nGod and thank Him for bringing victory to us.”
\ne Buhari administration would be just and God-fearing and would not use
\npolice to harass or intimidate anyone.<\/p>\n
Earlier, Amaechi said Buhari would successfully tackle poverty and
\nunemployment on assuming office.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cFrom the first day he is sworn-in, he will begin to address
\npoverty and unemployment\u201d.<\/p>\n
He urged the people to be peaceful in the forthcoming governorship
\nelection in the state and vote for the APC governorship candidate.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe would go out and bring in the votes.\u00a0 My phone will be open on that
\nday, if you are bringing in the votes and any policeman harasses you,
\ndon\u2019t fight back.\u00a0 Just give me the person\u2019s name and number.<\/p>\n
