A month to the end of this administration, Secretary to the Government<\/p>\n
of the Federation Mr. Anyim Pius Anyim maybe heading for an ugly
\nshowdown with his principal, President Goodluck Jonathan as he has
\ndefiled the directives of President Jonathan to relieve the Director
\nGeneral of the National Sports Commission, (NSC), Mr. Gbenga
\nElegbeleye of his job following accusation of cross misconducts.<\/p>\n
Senior government aides and top sports ministry officials are accusing
\nMr. Anyim of attempting to undermine the office of the president in
\nenforcing the sack order on the DG NSC.
\nThough the SGF has not come out publicly to state why he has refused
\nto carryout President Jonathan’s orders, sources are claiming that Mr.
\nAnyim is attempting to use delay tactics to keep the embattled
\nElegbeleye in office until the end of the Jonathan’s regime.<\/p>\n
President Jonathan had last Wednesday via a letter directed Mr. Anyim
\nto sack Mr. Elegbeleye, following complains of gross misconduct as the
\nhead of the sports body since his appointment as the DG NSC.<\/p>\n
The letter which was signed by Senior Special Assistant to President
\nJonathan on Administration, Mr. Matt Aikhionbare, titled
\nRe:Consideration for the appointment of a technocrat and a seasoned
\nadministrator as Director General of the National Sports Commission
\n(NSC), with reference no
\nPres\/81\/SGF\/4\/489\/36\/HCSF\/124\/184\/MSPT\/NSC\/59, dated April 15, 20015,
\nPresident Jonathan expressly directed the SGF to sack the NSC DG with
\nimmediate effect.<\/p>\n
Mr. President had on page four of the letter sent to him by the sports
\nminister, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, dirtied the SFG, on April 15, 2015 thus
\n“the current DG is hereby relieved. please post Mr. Alhassan Yakmut as
\nacting DG”.<\/p>\n
Despite this directive by Jonathan, Anyim, had instead sat on the
\nletter and directed Elegbeleye to engage influential individuals and
\ntop politicians to intercede on his behalf with President Jonathan to
\nkeep his job.<\/p>\n
“Mr. Anyim’s behaviour is gross indiscipline and for a senior
\nappointee of the president to be behaving like this shows that he does
\nnot have any respect for Mr. President,” a senior aide to the
\npresident said.<\/p>\n
The trouble started for Mr. Elebgeleye when he decided to continually
\ndisregard the directives of the minister of sports in the day to day
\nrunning of the sports commission.<\/p>\n
Our correspondent’s investigations revealed that Mr. Elegbeleye had in
\nthe last six months refused to take the orders of the minister in the
\nfinancial and administrative management of the sports body and on
\nseveral occasions told the minister that he would not take orders from
\nhim.<\/p>\n
According to a top sports administrator in the ministry of sports “Mr.
\nElegbeleye had constituted himself into a mini-god in the ministry. He
\ndoes whatever he likes without the knowledge of the sports minister or
\nanybody for that matter and whenever the minister confronts him for an
\nexplanation, he tells him straight that he (Elegbeleye) is the
\naccounting officer of the NSC and that he is not obliged to take
\norders from him.”<\/p>\n
A case in question was when a director retired from the NSC about a
\nmonth ago and Mr. Elegbeleye without recourse to the minister posted a
\nreplacement to the department and when he was confronted by the
\nminister why he took the decision without his knowledge, the NSC DG
\nwas said to have simply told the minister that he does not take orders
\nfrom him.<\/p>\n
Our correspondent’s investigations revealed that frustrated by Mr.
\nElegbeleye’s disregard for his office, Dr. Danagogo, complained to the
\nhead of the civil service of the federation (HOSCF) Mr. Dalandi
\nKifasi, who on the strength of the minister’s statement wrote Mr.
\nElegbeleye, ordering him to rescind his decision.<\/p>\n
Mr. Kifasi was said to have consequently posted a director to replace
\nElegbeleye’s appointee but the DG refused to respect then HOSCF’s
\ndirectives and continued to retain the director he posted to hold
\nforte at the department.<\/p>\n
Angered and frustrated by Mr. Elegbeleye’s obstinacy and gross
\ndisregard for his office, Dr. Danagogo subsequently complained to
\nPresident Jonathan via a letter of all the misconducts of the DG, and
\nthe president wrote Mr. Anyim ordering him to immediately “relieve Mr.
\nElegbeleye of his job” but for reasons best known to the former senate
\npresident, he refused to obey Mr. President’s directives.<\/p>\n
As at the time of filing this report, Mr. Elegbeleye was still
\nparading himself as the DG NSC and boasting that “there is nothing
\nanybody can do to remove him from office”.<\/p>\n
Outside the Elegbeleye’s saga, ministers and top Jonathan’s appointees
\nhave also accussed Mr. Anyim of cornering all appointments in agencies
\nand parastatals and populating them with his advisers and cronies.<\/p>\n
“Look at all the departments and paratstatals in most of the
\nministries, Mr. Anyim has filled them with his cronies and advisers.
\nThere is no minister in this government who can boast of appointing
\nhis choice of persons into any of the departments or agencies under
