The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it has put behind the recent
\nchallenges that confronted the leadership adding that its National Working
\nCommittee (NWC) is \u201cfirmly in the saddle and very determined to stabilize
\nand reengineer the party to retake its preeminent place in the polity.\u201d<\/p>\n
The party also said the voluntary resignations of its National Chairman,
\nAhmadu Adamu Mu\u2019azu and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Chief Tony
\nAnenih have become the huge sacrifice for the rebuilding process.<\/p>\n
The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh in a statement on
\nSaturday said \u201cthe National Working Committee appreciates the concerns,
\nsacrifices and valuable contributions of critical stakeholders during the
\ntrying time\u201d noting that the party \u201cis emerging from its challenges a
\nstronger and more united front.\u201d<\/p>\n
The leadership said \u201cthough our party in the past few weeks has been in
\nthe news more for internal challenges than for preparations for active
\nopposition, effective mechanisms are being put into place by the NWC to
\nreverse the trend, while leveraging on the new spirit of accommodation,
\nthe confidence and support of critical stakeholders including PDP
\ngovernors and legislators-elect, as well as other officials of the party
\nacross board to return the PDP to its winning ways.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the course of the campaigns, a lot of Nigerians became partisan and
\npolitically active, the love for various parties actively aroused passions
\nin attempts to project support for their candidates. Such passion, drive
\nand zeal have expectedly resulted in a political frenzy that has kept the
\ncitizenry and the society in a permanent election and campaign mode.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is thus the desire of the PDP leadership that our supporters would
\nchannel their energy towards becoming active members in their various
\nwards, local government areas and states to boost our support base across
\nboard for the task ahead.<\/p>\n
\u201cMistakes have been made, lessons have been learnt. We must therefore
\nleverage on the new spirit of oneness and our collective determination to
\nregain preeminence, intensify efforts towards a speedy rebuilding of our
\ngreat party while retooling for a forceful, yet highly credible opposition
\nto regain power at the center.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe believe that only a peaceful, credible and constructive opposition can
\nguarantee us seamless path to victory in 2019. To achieve, this all hands
\nmust be on deck.<\/p>\n
\u201cCurrently, our great party is searching for an appropriate and suitable
\nreplacement for the National Chairman from the North East geo-political
\nzone. In this regard therefore, we expect that our committed members
\nshould turn their focus on this very important task, which is essential
\nin the repositioning process\u201d, the party said.<\/p>\n
The national leadership then charged all its members across the country
\nto continue to work with the leadership at all levels while ensuring that
\nthey are not in anyway distracted by certain forces including those
\nworking for the APC who are still bent at using a section of the media,
\nespecially the social media as well as sponsored protests to instigate
