Mr. Bisi Onasanya is set to retire at a high point of his career as Group
\nManaging Director\/Chief Executive Officer, First Bank of Nigeria Limited,
\na subsidiary of FBN Holdings Plc and Nigeria\u2019s most valuable banking
\nbrand, at the successful completion of his tenure.<\/p>\n
His retirement takes effect at the end of the current Financial Year on
\nDecember 31 2015. Mr. Onasanya is retiring on the heels of an inspiring
\nand enviable career spanning over three decades of diverse management and
\noperational experience, 21 years of which he has spent with FirstBank,
\nserving meritoriously in the last six years as Group Managing
\nDirector\/CEO. He has been able to stabilise and modernise the expanding
\nFirstBank brand since his appointment in 2009, thus reinforcing the
\nconfidence of the bank\u2019s diverse stakeholders and the global financial
\npublics.<\/p>\n
Mr. Onasanya\u2019s successor will be announced in the last quarter prior to
\nhis exit. This is in sync with FirstBank\u2019s corporate governance practice,
\nwhich provides for seamless transition for the office of Group Managing
\nDirector. As is well known, FirstBank\u2019s corporate governance posture has
\nwon it much respect and awards both locally and internationally.<\/p>\n
A seasoned banker and chartered accountant, Mr. Onasanya is a highly
\nrespected and personable executive who has established a reputation at
\nFirstBank for solid performance and sound judgment. He is widely reputed
\nas the architect of the modern FirstBank, associated with various
\ninnovative and creative achievements. He was Project Coordinator of
\nCentury 2 the new frontier, FirstBank\u2019s far-reaching enterprise
\ntransformation project at the turn of the century, as well as Project
\nCoordinator of the FirstBank Corporate Transformation project which has
\nseen the bank accentuating its foothold on modernisation. Mr. Onasanya
\nalso superintended the latest composite Corporate Identity\/Brand Refresh
\nof the FirstBank Group, a bold step heralding the international expansion
\nof the FirstBank brand.<\/p>\n
A corporate strategy and development pacesetter, Mr. Onasanya has ensured
\nthe steady internationalisation of FirstBank, which under his leadership
\nnow boasts of subsidiaries with operations across Africa, Europe, the
\nMiddle East and Asia.<\/p>\n
He is also reputed as a people person having pioneered significant
\ntransformation in the development of staff at FirstBank. His tenure saw
\nthe transformation of the bank\u2019s training centre into FirstAcademy, a best
\nin class corporate university that recently clinched the 2015 Global
\nCouncil of Corporate Universities Award for best impact by a corporate
\nuniversity on the implementation of business strategies. The bank has also
\nreceived the highly coveted Best Place to Work award.<\/p>\n
An articulate and insightful thought leader in the financial services
\nindustry, Mr. Onasanya has made meaningful contributions as a member of
\nthe Bankers Committee and is the Chairman of the Sub Committee on Ethics
\nand Professionalism. He has served as a member of the Chartered Institute
\nof Bankers Sub-Committee on Fiscal and Monetary Policies and a member of
\nthe Presidential Committee on Reduction of Interest Rates. He has also
\ndelivered several papers and served on various conferences C-Suite panels
\nacross the globe. He is Editor of the new book, \u201cPerspectives on Banking
\nin Nigeria\u201d, featuring a collection of learned articles by banking and
\nfinance professionals including operators, regulators and academics.<\/p>\n
Mr. Onasanya is a Director of Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) and has
\nbeen Chairman of First Registrars Nigeria Limited, Kakawa Discount House
\nLimited, FBN Bank UK Limited and Unified Payments Limited. A Fellow of the
\nInstitute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria he is also an Associate
\nMember of the Nigerian Institute of Taxation and a Fellow and Member of
\nCouncil of the Chartered Institute of Bankers. Mr. Onasanya was early in
\n2015 honoured as The Sun Man of the Year 2014 and Newswatch Man of the
\nYear 2014 respectively, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to
\nnational development in the financial services industry.<\/p>\n
Under Mr. Onasanya\u2019s leadership FirstBank has been back to back winner of
\nboth national and international awards, having been named \u201cThe Best Bank
\nBrand in Nigeria\u201d four times in a row \u2013 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 \u2013 by
\nthe globally renowned \u201cThe Banker Magazine\u201d of the Financial Times Group.
\nFor four consecutive years, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 FirstBank has been
