Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson has inaugurated the Local Government Chairmen\/Coordinators for the Bayelsa State Waterways Security Patrol Task Force with a mandate to feed security agencies with community-based intelligence on criminal activities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Governor Dickson, who gave the charge, while inaugurating the chairmen\/coordinators, urged them to liaise with community leaders in their various local government areas to gather information on criminal acts, such as sea piracy, crude oil theft, kidnapping, illegal refineries.<\/span><\/p>\n

He observed that in the last 2 months there has been an upsurge in security breaches, especially in the East and Central senatorial districts of the State, stressing that, effective synergy between the task force and security agencies would bring about sanity on the waterways.<\/p>\n

The Governor however, pointed out that, the chairmen will work under the direct supervision of the Special Adviser on Security Matters.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cYou will recall that when we came on board, we took measures to ensure that our state and even our waterways became relatively safe. But in the last one or two months, we have been having some instances of security breaches by way of kidnap incidents particularly in the Brass area and occasionally in the central senatorial district as well.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cSecurity agencies are up to their task, but we feel that a committee like this made up of people who know the waterways and some of the players along the creeks should be put together to give timely information to the security agencies.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd let me make it clear that this task force will work under the general supervision of the Special Adviser on Security and we expect you all to send regular daily reports about goings-on in your various local government areas because we need to know who is doing what; we need to know who is hiding under the guise of politics to commit crime; we also need to know those who are involved in kidnapping and bunkering and how you can give timely information to security agencies.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a matter of fact, after this inauguration, if any incident takes place in your local government area, you will be called upon to be part of the investigation and solving the problem so this is a very serious responsibility.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Chairmen include, Mr. Bello Bina in charge of Brass, Lucky Asanakpo-Sagbama, Tolu Amatu-Ekeremor, Soubre Appah-Yenagoa.<\/p>\n

Others are, Ken Ogbise-Kolokuma\/Opokuma, West Alaibo-Nembe, Azibola Elabha-Ogbia and Timiondi Agoke-Southern Ijaw.<\/p>\n

Responding on behalf of his colleagues, Chairman in charge of Ekeremor local government, Mr. Tolu Amatu expressed the preparedness of the task force to carry out their functions effectively.<\/span><\/p>\n
