Still angered over the emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki as Senate
\nPresident, wife of National Leader of the All Progressive Congress, APC,
\nSenator Oluremi Tinubu refused a handshake from the Senate President in
\nwhat appears the beginning of her “war” with the Senate Leadership.<\/p>\n
Her husband, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu was said to have been visibly angry
\nyesterday that he asked his wife to lead some Senators back to the Senate
\nChambers to “elect” the APC’s preferred choice for Senate Presidency. That
\nmove hit the rock as Senator Saraki had already been sworn-in.<\/p>\n
However, Senate President, Bukola Saraki, on Wednesday administered oath
\nof office and allegiance on Ahmad Lawan and 27 other All Progressives
\nCongress senators who were absent at the formal inauguration of the Eighth
\nSenate.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0 senators were gathered at the International Conference Centre, Abuja,
\nwaiting for President Muhammadu Buhari, who was billed to address them
\nwhen the Clerk of the National Assembly, Alhaji Salisu Maikasuwa,
\nproclaimed the Eighth Senate and subsequently conducted the election.<\/p>\n
The election, which had 23 APC senators in attendance, produced Saraki as
\npresident of the Senate, while Senator Ike Ekweremadu was elected his
\ndeputy.<\/p>\n
Saraki, after the election, administered oath of office and allegiance on
\n75 other senators.<\/p>\n
However, the others, mainly members of the Senate Unity Forum, led by
\nSenator Ahmad Lawan,\u00a0 mobilised themselves to the chamber as early as
\n8:30am on Wednesday, waiting for the Senate president, to formally swear
\nthem in as senators.<\/p>\n
The senators, after the votes and proceedings of the previous legislative
\nday were adopted, took turn to take their oaths by reading it out aloud
\nand append signatures.<\/p>\n
By protocol,\u00a0 each of the newly sworn-in senators was expected,\u00a0 after
\ntaking the oaths,\u00a0 to present a copy of their certificate to the Senate
\nPresident and in turn, shake hands with him.<\/p>\n
The protocol was duly followed by others except Senator Oluremi Tinubu
\n(Lagos Central ), who refused to shake hands with Saraki, but merely
