Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ghali Umar
\nNa\u2019Abba will on Monday, July 6\u00a0 chair the first detailed\u00a0 book on National
\nAssembly entitled; \u201cNigeria Fourth Republic National Assembly.\u201d The
\n400-page book was
\npublished in the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n
The event which holds at Shehu Musa Yar\u2019Adua Centre is expected to attract
\nvirtually all the past and present presiding officers of the National
\nAssembly. President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki will be the
\nSpecial Guest.<\/p>\n
The book the first of its kind since the inception of the current National
\nAssembly in 1999 is a rich and authoritative reference material on the
\nfederal parliament.<\/p>\n
Written by Austin Uganwa, a Doctorate Degree holder in Political
\nCommunication; renowned journalist and prolific writer, former chairman of
\nthe House Press Corps and two-time Special Adviser in the office of the
\nDeputy Speaker, House of Representatives; the book provides uncommon
\ninsights into the eras of the various presiding officers of the National
\nAssembly from 1999 to 2007.<\/p>\n
A statement made available to journalists in Abuja by the author, Dr.
\nUganwa contained that the book is an extensive exposition of the politics,
\nchallenges, debilitating drama, nights of long knives, metaphoric banana
\npeels and consensus building approach that attended the two chambers of
\nthe National Assembly at the wake of the Fourth Republic until 2007.<\/p>\n
The author notes: \u201cthe book evaluates in the most downright fashion\u00a0 mass
\nmedia coverage of the National Assembly based on the Social Responsibility
\npress model that guides media function in democracy. It puts in context
\nand perspective the face-offs that for the first four years defined the
\nrelationship between the House and the Presidency\u201d.<\/p>\n
