A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, APC, and former Chairman of
\nthe Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Kawo Baraje has called a former
\nChairman of the APC, Chief Bisi Akande a liar.<\/p>\n
Baraje said Akande and his co-travelers are spreading lies to President
\nBuhari and creating disunity within the APC.<\/p>\n
He challenged the former APC chairman to show proof to all the
\nunsubstantiated information they have dished out to the President and
\nother party chietains.<\/p>\n
According to him, \u201cI do not know where Chief Akande and his cohorts are
\ngetting this unsubstantiated information they are circulating. We
\nchallenge them to provide proof and let Nigerians make their judgment.<\/p>\n
\u201cAkande and co believe that they have exclusive right to determine who
\noccupies what position in today\u2019s Nigeria and whoever tries to challenge
\ntheir position must be subjected to savage attack in the media. That
\ntactic is definitely undemocratic.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have known Chief Akande to be an honest man. I got the shock of my life
\nwhen he alleged that I had a meeting in my house with \u2018some old and new
\nPDP members with a view to hijacking the National Assembly\u2019 through the
\naspiration of Dr. Bukola Saraki as the Senate President.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have been quiet as a leader so as to not to be seen as taking sides
\nbecause of my closeness to Dr. Saraki, else people will read meaning into
\nit.<\/p>\n
\u201cAkande has been playing a role which I admire. He will recall that he
\nmet some actors, with a Governor from the NorthWest and a leader of the
\nparty from the SouthWest, where the leader from the SouthWest was
\ncautioned to be reasonable in this crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said the forum also admonished the Southwest leader to allow justice,
\nfair play and equity to take place.<\/p>\n
Baraje said, \u201cHe (Akande) supported the view of the governor\u00a0 from the
\nNorth-west that the particular leader from the South-west should be
\nadmonished for his action. It is therefore surprising that Akande is now
\nbeing economical with the truth and painting a picture that exists only in
\nhis imagination.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy worry has been that President Buhari is being fed with lies and
\nstories that are dangerous to the polity. My fears have now been confirmed
\nwith Akande\u2019s statement.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is my prayer that the\u00a0 President should strengthen his information
\ngathering network, so as to have a clear and true picture of what is
\nhappening.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am also appealing to Chief Akande and his cohorts to demonstrate more
\ncommitment to our party by exposing the President to the truth that would
\nassist him in taking good decisions. I hope that this appeal will be
\nheeded.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am still keeping quiet with the hope that our efforts in reconciliation
\nwill come to a fruitful end.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am happy to state that the former Governor of Kwara State enjoys the
\nsupport of the critical constituencies that he needs to be President of
\nthe Senate, particularly that of the good people of Nigeria.\u201d<\/p>\n
Baraje said the story by Akande that a purported meeting took place in his
\nhouse after the general elections where a so-called new PDP group plotted
\n\u201cwith a view to hijacking the National Assembly, with an ultimate aim of
\nresuscitating\u00a0 the PDP as their future political platform\u201d was a mere
