Delta State Governor, Senator, DR. Ifeanyi Okowa has sworn in twelve new
\nCommissioners and five Special Advisers with charge that his
\nadministration has zero tolerance for corruption, sectionalism and
\nnepotism in the running of\u00a0 government
\nbusiness.<\/p>\n
The newly sworn in Commissioners are Barr. Mrs Mary Iyasere (Commerce and
\nIndustry), Hon. John Nani (Environment), Dr. Kingsley Emu(Economic
\nPlanning), Chief James Augoye(Works), Mr. Vincent Uduaghan(Transport), Mr.
\nNewworld Safugha(Energy), and Mr. Joseph Ogeh(Housing).<\/p>\n
Others are Mr. Fidelis Tilije(Water Resources Development), Rev. Mrs.
\nOmashola Williams(Women Affairs), Mr. Austin Chikezie(Agriculture and
\nNatural Resources), Hon. Joyce Overah(Science and Technology) and Mr.
\nChiedu Ebie(Basic and Secondary Education).<\/p>\n
The special advisers are Bro. Emmanuel Ogidi(Rural Development and Peace
\nBuilding), Sen. Emmanuel Aguariavwodo(Infrastructure and Housing
\nDevelopment), Rt. Hon. Martins Okonta(Land Resources and Legislative
\nMatters), Hon. Pascal Adigwe(National Assembly Matters and
\nInter-governmental Liaison)and Comrade Mike Okeme(Labour Relations).<\/p>\n
Speaking in Asaba, while swearing in the commissioners and Special
\nAdvisers, Governor Okowa charged the Commissioners to\u00a0 join him in the
\nfight against corruption so as to retain the implicit confidence and trust
\nthe people repose on them.<\/p>\n
He reminded the commissioners and special advisers that it is no longer
\nbusiness as usual in the management of government activities and urged
\nthem to be honest, diligent and responsible in the discharge of their
\nduties
\n\u2018\u2019Corruption starves the state of valuable resources that could be used for
\ninfrastructural development, improve our educational systems, boost our
\nhealthcare system and take care of the poor and needy, even worse is that
\nanywhere it is allowed to fester the cost of doing business becomes
\nprohibitive. \u201cI urge you to support me as stakeholders to lead the fight
\nagainst corruption in your respective offices\u201d that is the only way to
\nretain the trust and confidence the people have bestowed upon us\u2019\u2019 Senator
\nOkowa stated.<\/p>\n
As part of his resolve to curb wastefulness in government, the Governor
\ndirected all ministries, departments and agencies in the state not to use
\ngovernment funds to place adverts for him as he clocks 56 on the 8th of
\nJuly. He also urged his friends and well-wishers who intend to do same to
\nchannel such funds to the empowerment of less privileged persons in their
\ncommunities.<\/p>\n
He charged all political appointees in his administration to shun ethnic
\npolitics and sectionalism and regard the entire state as their
\nconstituency, while stressing that they must be fair to all Deltans.<\/p>\n
According to him \u2018\u2019I want to make it crystal clear that this
\nadministration has zero tolerance for sectionalism and nepotism. Given the
\npan-Delta mandate that brought us here we cannot afford to do any less.
\nThe horrible thing about ethnic politics is that it appeals to our worst
\ninstincts and fuels our greatest fears, adding \u2018\u2019as commissioners and
\nspecial advisers, always remember that you have been appointed to serve
\nthe entire state, treat and give every citizen equal opportunity and the
\nchance to realise his or her potentials and benefit from our programmes.
\nPeople are looking up to see in you the qualities of fairness, equity and
\njustice that are the articles of faith of this administration\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n
Senator Okowa who congratulated the commissioners and special advisers on the
\nappointment urged them to key into the SMART agenda of his administration
\nespecially the job creation programmes stressing that \u2018\u2019it is incumbent on
\nyou to make the attainment of these lofty goals in the SMART agenda your
\nwatchword, they must be the focal point around which all your decisions
\nand actions will revolve\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n
Barr. Mrs. Mary Iyasere who responded on behalf of the newly sworn in
\ncommissioners and special advisers thanked Governor Okowa for the
