A Federal High Court in Abuja, on Tuesday, granted bail, on
\nself-recognition, to former \u200eGov. Sule Lamido of Jigawa\u200e and
\nhis two sons charged with money laundering.<\/p>\n
Lamido, his sons, Mustapha and Aminu, and one Abubakar Wada, were
\narraigned on a 24-count charge of laundering N1.35billion belonging to the
\nState when he was governor.<\/p>\n
They were initially arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes
\nCommission (EFCC) before Justice Evelyn Anyadike of the Federal High
\nCourt, Kano, who remanded them in prison without hearing their application
\nfor bail.<\/p>\n
The application for bail was transferred to Abuja for determination.<\/p>\n
Ruling on it, Justice Gabriel Kolawole ordered Lamido to surrender all his
\ntravelling documents to the court\u2019s Deputy Chief Registrar.<\/p>\n
Kolawole also granted bail to Mustapha and Aminu, and their alleged
\naccomplice, Wada, each in the sum of N25 million and two sureties.<\/p>\n
The court also ordered that of the two sureties for each accused, one must
\nbe a civil servant not below grade level 16.<\/p>\n
The judge also ordered that if one of the sureties is into private
\nbusiness, he must show evidence of tax payment in the last three years and
\ndeposit his passport photograph with the court.<\/p>\n
EFCC specifically accused Lamido of collecting kickbacks from contractors
\nin the state, with the funds allegedly paid into accounts that were
