The State Security Service has said a former National Security Adviser,
\nNSA, Sambo Dasuki planned to commit treasonable felony against the
\nNigerian State, reason his homes in Abuja and Sokoto were thoroughly
\nsearched.<\/p>\n
Tony Opuiyo, an official of the State Security Service, said it recovered
\nsophisticated arms and ammunitions, military related gears and 12 new
\nvehicles, including five bullet-proof cars from Mr. Dasuki\u2019s home.
\nThe statement said:<\/p>\n
\u201cOn 16th July, 2015, about 1650 hours, based on credible intelligence
\nlinking the immediate past NSA, Mohammed Sambo Dasuki (Col rtd) with
\nalleged plans to commit treasonable felony against the Nigerian State,
\noperatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) conducted a search on
\nthe properties belonging to the former NSA, Mohammed Sambo Dasuki (Col
\nrtd).<\/p>\n
The properties are on Nos. 13, John Khadiya Street, Nos. 46, Nelson
\nMandela Street, both at Asokoro, Abuja, and Nos. 3 Sabon Birni Road, Gwiwa
\nArea, Sokoto, Sokoto State.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe search operations were planned to be simultaneously conducted, but
\nDasuki, refused the operatives entry into his main residence located at
\nNo. 13 John Khadiya Street, Asokoro, despite being presented with a
\ngenuine and duly signed search warrant.<\/p>\n
\u201cConsequently, what was to last not more than two hours, lasted more than
\n10 hours, up till the early hours of 17th July, 2015. Indeed if not for
\nthe sense of maturity and professionalism of the officers and men assigned
\nthis task and the very good understanding and timely intervention of the
\nnew Chief of Army Staff, Tsukur Y. Buratai (Maj Gen), there would have
\nbeen a clash between the army operatives guarding the house and Service
\noperatives, as Sambo directed the soldiers on duty not to allow any
\nmovement into his house, despite the subsisting court order. SAMBO
\nthereafter raised a false alarm to the military authorities to come to his
\naid as he failed to correctly tell the military that his property was
\nabout to be legitimately searched.<\/p>\n
\u201cPlease, recall that Sambo retired from the Army as a Colonel, and is
\ntherefore not entitled to have military guards, if not for the fact he was
\nNSA. Even as NSA, such guards should have been withdrawn after his removal
\nas NSA since he would not have been entitled.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe search was thoroughly conducted, and several items recovered, among
\nwhich were some incriminating items. These include seven high caliber
\nrifles, (high assault weapons), several magazines and military related
\ngears.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe team also recovered 12 new vehicles, out of which five were bullet
\nproofs. These vehicles which are all exotic vehicles were retrieved from
\nSambo\u2019s residence having failed to produce evidence of ownership. For
\ninstance, what could he be doing with five bullet proof cars as a retired
\nNSA? These cars which from all available evidence were purchased with tax
\npayers\u2019 money, were being kept for possible sinister enterprise.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Service would want to state categorically that this search operation
\nis not a witch hunt. The Service decided to move at this time in line with
\ncurrent Management resolve to be proactive and pre-empt individuals with
\npenchant for impunity and lawlessness from putting back the nation to the
\ndark days.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Service is also aware that the lethal arms and the vehicles recovered
\nwere not reflected in Sambo\u2019s handover notes or what could a former NSA be
\ndoing with destructive weapons and bullet proof cars which put together
\ncould disrupt the peace of any city in Nigeria for a while.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn the search of his three properties, including the Sokoto residence,
\nthe Service is aware that in his capacity and given his antecedents, he
\nmight decide to use any of his residences for such diabolical plans,
\nrather than his main residence.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Service Management would want to assure members of the public that it
\nwould not trample on the freedom of individuals or groups as guaranteed by
\nthe Nigerian Constitution and emphasized by the current administration\u2019s
\nposition on transparency, and probity underlined by justice and equity for
\nall Nigerians.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is the driving force for all DSS operations. However, the Service
\nwould not hesitate to go after any person or group of persons, no matter
\nhow highly placed once such individual (s) breach or attempt to breach the
\nlaws of the Federation. The days of impunity and indecisiveness in the
\nface of unpatriotic acts by individuals operating against the State are
\nover.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Service hereby appeals to all Nigerians to be law abiding and partner
\nwith it in ensuring a peaceful and secured nation. In the same vein, those
\nthat are bent on breaking the rules governing our peaceful co-existence
\ndue to either the huge ill gotten wealth they have acquired or imaginary
\nhold they think they have on our nation\u2019s survival, are being warned to
\nrethink. The DSS will use all constitutional means as defined by its
