President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday in Abuja reassured that only
\npatriotic, decent and experienced Nigerians would be appointed as
\nministers in his government.<\/p>\n
The President, who was responding to questions on \u2018Good Morning Nigeria\u2019,
\na television programme, said that politicians and technocrats would make
\nthe list of nominees for ministerial appointments.<\/p>\n
“From what I have seen so far, we need really patriotic Nigerians –
\nNigerians that can work very hard, knowledgeable, experienced, committed
\nNigerians – to be in charge of ministries.<\/p>\n
“A lot of the institutions of Nigeria – important institutions – were
\ncompromised. Everybody was for himself and God for all of us; its most
\nunfortunate.<\/p>\n
“We have the people, educated people, experienced people but everybody
\nseemed to be working for himself – how much he could get as much and as
\nquick as possible.<\/p>\n
“We have to look for technocrats and we have to look for politicians and
\ncertainly we have to look for decent people in this class to give them the
\nresponsibility of being in charge of ministries and important parastatals
\n(agencies).”<\/p>\n
On reported under-dealings in the nation\u2019s oil and gas sector, the
\nPresident said that the Federal Government was working very assiduously to
\nexpose the persons behind the illegal activity.<\/p>\n
He promised that his administration would continue to update members of
\nthe public on government\u2019s investigation into the matter.<\/p>\n
He said that government\u2019s aim was to identify and prosecute all those
\nfound culpable.<\/p>\n
According to him, the relevant shipping documents are being compiled for
\nonward submission to countries of destination of stolen Nigerian crude
\noil.<\/p>\n
“The search continues; up to the third of this month, our crude was still
\nbeing illegally lifted by people who are in government.<\/p>\n
“We are trying to get these documents. We are getting the cooperation of
\nthe international community.<\/p>\n
“We are going to make sure that those who perpetrated this theft against
\nNigeria are faced with facts very soon and are taken to our courts.<\/p>\n
“We\u2019ve got the cooperation of some of the countries of the destinations of
\nour crude (oil) and we are discussing with them.<\/p>\n
“We have to maintain high confidentiality so that we don\u2019t risk some of
\nthe loyal Nigerians that are helping us to trace the destinations of this
\nstolen crude and then the accounts into which the monies are being paid
\ninstead of the Federal Government account.”<\/p>\n
Buhari said that his administration was still studying the recommendations
\non how the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation should be reorganised.<\/p>\n
He described his recent trip to the United States (US) as very successful
\nas he was able to extract the commitment of the American government to
\nassist and support Nigeria toward tackling the economic and security
\nchallenges it was facing.<\/p>\n
He said that the US and other European countries had also pledged to
\nassist Nigeria by putting in place necessary security mechanism in the
\nGulf of Guinea to help check the theft of the country\u2019s crude oil.<\/p>\n
Commenting on the leadership tussle in the National Assembly, the
\nPresident reiterated his that he would not interfere directly in the
\naffairs of the lawmakers.<\/p>\n
Buhari, who expressed displeasure and frustration over the lingering
\ncrisis in the Assembly, however, called on those behind the dispute to
\nsearch their conscious and obey party\u2019s decisions on issues concerning
\ntheir affairs.<\/p>\n
He called on Nigerians to cooperate with his administration to move the
\ncountry forward and warned that no part of the country would be allowed to
\noperate on its own.<\/p>\n
The President added that the Nigeria “must remain one.”<\/p>\n
