Details of bank accounts of the Resident Electoral Commissioner,\u00a0REC, in Yobe State in the last general election, Abu Zarma, were\u00a0Thursday admitted as exhibits by the Yobe State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abuja, along with proof of lodgements of N15m into the two accounts just days to the April 11Presidential poll.<\/p>\n

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its governorship\u00a0candidate, Adamu Waziri, are challenging the election of the All\u00a0Progressives Party, APC, candidate, Ibrahim Gaidam, alleging that the winner in the poll had bribed the chief electoral official with N15 million.<\/p>\n

The PDP buttressed its case Thursday by providing details of the alleged bribery payment, which were accepted as exhibits by the\u00a0court.<\/p>\n

Sued by the PDP and Waziri in the case are Gaidam, his party, the\u00a0APC, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Zarma\u00a0and an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Zakari Deba, the Aide-\u00a0de-Camp to the governor.<\/p>\n

Governor Gaidam\u2019s security aide is alleged to have paid N8m into\u00a0Zarma\u2019s Diamond Bank account and N7m into his Zenith Bank\u00a0account on the same day, April 8.<\/p>\n

The exhibits were provided the tribunal by officials of Diamond\u00a0Bank and Zenith Bank who were subpoenaed as witnesses.<\/p>\n

All the exhibits tendered and admitted by the tribunal, including\u00a0account opening forms, account statements, photocopies of tellers\u00a0used for the lodgements of the funds and bore Zarma\u2019s name.<\/p>\n

Counsels to the respondents did not oppose the tendering of the\u00a0exhibits during Thursday\u2019s proceedings but said they would\u00a0reserve their objection to some of them till the stage of filing their\u00a0final written addresses.<\/p>\n

The head of operations of the Damaturu Branch of Zenith Bank,\u00a0Umar Alkali, said Deba deposited N7m into Zarma\u2019s account with\u00a0the bank on April 8.<\/p>\n

Led by the petitioner\u2019s lawyer, Abiodun Owonikoko, Alkali said\u00a0further that the account now had a balance of N1,345,503.38.<\/p>\n

Also giving evidence, a staff of the Damaturu Branch of Diamond\u00a0Bank, Bamaji Kukawa, said that Deba paid N8m into Zarma\u2019s\u00a0account with the bank on April 8.<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore the April 8, 2015 entry the bank account had N28,143.60k,\u201d Kukawa told the court.<\/p>\n

According to the witness, on April 13, the sum of N8m was withdrawn from the account in favour of Saleh & Hanif Company<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
