The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is to kick start
\npre-election meetings for the Kogi and Bayelsa governorship elections
\ntomorrow (Wednesday 12th August).<\/p>\n
Towards this end, the Resident Electoral Commissioners for the two states
\nhave been summoned, with their retinue of staff, to the Commission\u2019s
\nheadquarters for the first set of preliminary meetings leading up to the
\nelections by the Acting Chairman, Amina Bala Zakari.<\/p>\n
The Kogi and Bayelsa governorship elections are scheduled for Saturday,
\n28th November and Saturday 5th December 2015 respectively. Already,
\ncritical departments have forwarded their budgets and schedule of
\nactivities for the two elections which were approved by the Commission
\nlast week.<\/p>\n
The Commission is also to meet on Thursday this week with Resident
\nElectoral Commissioners (RECs). This would be the first such quarterly
\nmeeting under the watch of the Acting Chairman, Amina Bala Zakari.
\nHighlights of the meeting, according to sources close to the Commission\u2019s
\nSecretariat include: articulating modalities for Continuous Voter
\nRegistration (CVR), distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), review
\nof on-going litigations\/Tribunal cases, storage of the Smart Card Readers
\ndeployed in the 2015 general elections and the impending Borno Senatorial
\nbye-election.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, and following the recommendations of the Commission\u2019s retreat
\nheld in June at Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, and the recommendations of various
\nstakeholders, all Directors have been directed to come up today with
\nshort-and long-term plans for budget implementation.<\/p>\n
The meeting will, among others, look at how to institutionalize
\nperformance evaluation, hone the Commission\u2019s business processes, take
\nanother look at the Strategic Plan (2012-2016) with a view to concluding
\ntasks that are outstanding and to consider what is to be implemented.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
