The Acting Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and
\nSafety Agency (NIMASA) Mr. Haruna Baba Jauro has restated the Agency’s
\ncommitment to remove all barriers to seamless facilitation of transit
\ncargo to the Republic of Niger through Nigeria\u2019s sea ports.<\/p>\n
The DG who gave this assurance when the Nigerian\/Nigerien Joint Commission
\non Transit Cargo led by the Director General of the Shippers Council of
\nthe Republic of Niger, Mr. Oumarou Issoufou paid a courtesy visit to the
\nAgency in Lagos recently also noted that Nigeria and Niger can work
\ntogether without barriers to ensure smooth passage of goods between both
\ncountries.<\/p>\n
The NIMASA boss also expressed satisfaction with the activities of the
\nCommission, specifically in the area of trade relations between Nigeria
\nand Niger saying both countries have a lot to benefit from each other on
\nissues concerning trade.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will continue to share ideas on how to make the relationship better
\nand remove all barriers to successful transit of cargo between the two
\ncountries using global best practices\u201d, the DG said.<\/p>\n
Earlier in his address, the Director General of Niger Republic Shippers\u2019
\nCouncil, who spoke through an interpreter commended the Agency\u2019s efforts
\nin ensuring safety and security in the nation\u2019s ports and also pledged the
\nreadiness of Niger Republic to co-operate with the Nigerian government for
\nthe interest of both countries.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have been to the Apapa and Tincan Ports and we observed the quality of
\nsafety and security available on the Nigerian waterways, which are
\ncommendable\u201d, Oumarou stated.<\/p>\n
He further appealed to the Agency to do its best to foster a good
\nrelationship between both countries.<\/p>\n
The Nigerian\/Nigerien Joint Commission on Transit Cargo was established
\nwith the aim of facilitating seamless transit of Niger bound cargo through
\nNigerian ports. \u00fdThe delegation from the Republic of Niger comprising
\nmostly economic operators was in Nigeria to inspect port facilities \u00fdwith
