President Muhammadu Buhari said Thursday in Abuja that Nigeria, under his
\nleadership, will work more closely with other countries facing the
\nchallenge of falling oil prices\u00a0 to rapidly move away from dependence on
\ncrude oil exports for economic survival.<\/p>\n
Speaking at an audience with the new Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to
\nNigeria, Mr. Fahad Abdullah Sefyan, President Buhari affirmed his
\nadministration’s commitment to\u00a0 faster development of Nigeria’s non-oil
\nsectors and the speedy diversification of the country’s economy.<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2018For more than 30 years, Nigeria has depended on oil as its major source
\nof revenue at the expense of agriculture and the non-oil sector which
\ncould be the mainstay of our economy.<\/p>\n
“As oil exporting countries facing similar challenges due to the down turn
\nin the international price of crude oil, we should be working closer
\ntogether.<\/p>\n
“Saudi Arabia has done excellently in manufacturing, building of
\ninfrastructure and exploration of solid minerals and I believe that
\ngreater bilateral cooperation between us in this regard will be mutually
\nbeneficial,”\u00a0 the President told the new Ambassador of Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n
President Buhari said that in keeping with his commitment to the
\naccelerated development of Nigeria’s non-oil sector, the Federal
\nGovernment\u00a0 will ensure that all pending agreements on trade and economic
\nrelations with other countries are speedily concluded\u00a0 and signed.<\/p>\n
President Buhari, who also received the new Ambassador of Turkey,\u00a0 Mr.
\nHakan Cakil and the new Ambassador of Sudan, Mr. Ibrahim Bushra Mohammed,
\ncommended Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Sudan for their cooperation with
\nNigeria in the war\u00a0 against terrorism.<\/p>\n
The President restated his conviction that the war against terrorism in
\nNigeria and other countries can only be won with greater and more
\neffective\u00a0 international collaboration.<\/p>\n
All the new ambassadors assured President Buhari that they will work very
\nhard to boost trade and economic relations between Nigeria and their
