The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State had asked the
\ngovernorship aspirant of All Progressives Congress(APC), Timi Alaibe, to
\nforget his ambition because he is “a desperate power monger and a traitor
\nto the Ijaw nation\u201d who lacks the vision to govern the state.<\/p>\n
The party also revealed how Alaibe allegedly donated N10 billion towards
\nthe realisation of the aborted third term plot of ex-President Olusegun
\nObasanjo, when he was Managing Director of Niger Delta Development
\nCommission (NDDC).<\/p>\n
It also accused the Opokuma born politician of providing the largest chunk
\nof money to ensure that, the first elected governor of Bayelsa State,
\nChief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha was not only impeached, but humilated before
\nthe Nigerian public, just to fulfill the agenda of people, who have never
\ngenuinely meant well\u00a0 for the Ijaw nation.<\/p>\n
A statement signed by the Secretary of the Bayelsa State PDP, Godspower
\nKeku notes with regret that, all these monies, which were meant to execute
\nNDDC projects in Bayelsa were used to fund the inordinate ambition, anti
\ndemocratic tendencies of Obasanjo and to pull down a fellow Ijaw man, who
\nhad clearly demonstrated an undying love for his people.He also blamed
\nChief Alaibe\u2019s manipulations for Bayelsa\u2019s precarious position as the
\nState with the lowest number of NDDC projects and yet with the highest
\nnumber of abandoned NDDC projects, compared to the other core NDDC states,
\nstressing that, it will be dangerous to enthrust such a person with a
\nposition as important and strategic, as the Governor of the only
\nhomogeneous Ijaw State.<\/p>\n
Keku said Alaibe’s antecedents did not recommend him as someone who could
\nbe a good governor nor did he have anything substantive to offer. The
\nparty also said among the other APC aspirants, the former NNDC boss has
\nthe biggest political baggage which it attributed to what it described as
\nthe “level of corruption and gross mismanagement\u201d under him at NNDC.<\/p>\n
Keku said that it was because of Alaibe’s lack of “relevant skills and
\nleadership acumen\u201d, nothing significant is now remembered as his
\nachievements as the former Managing Director of NDDC responsible for
\ninfrastructural development in the Niger Delta area, among others.<\/p>\n
\u201dIt is a shame that somebody like Alaibe is coming out to say he wants to
\ncontest for governor of the state. The question to ask him is: what is he
\ncoming to offer? What was his antecedent at NDDC? In his years as the
\nmanaging director of NDDC what did he do to better the lot of Bayelsans or
\nthe state in spite of all the opportunities available to him?<\/p>\n
“Is it not true that instead of helping his own people he chose to empower
\nhis friends from the North and South West? Now is it not important to ask
\nhim if he actually loves Bayelsans; he should account for all the billions
\nof naira budgeted and released for the construction of roads and water
\nprojects for Bayelsa state. Where are the roads and water projects in the
\nstate and what happened to the money so budgeted and released for this
\npurpose? Who is Alaibe fooling? Surely, Bayelsans don’t trust him. His
\ntenure at NDDC was a complete disaster\u201d.<\/p>\n
Keku who accused the governorship aspirant of “having donated N10 billion
\ntowards former President Olusegun Obsanjo alleged third term plot”, said
\nthat Alaibe had tried to contest for governor at three different times and
\non each occasion dropped out of the race after allegedly collecting money
\nor appointment with the claim that he was \u201ctold to step down\u201d.<\/p>\n
This trait, Keku said, did not recommend Alaibe as principled person or
\none with leader you can trust. He also claimed that the APC aspirant is a
\n\u201duse and dump\u201d politician, saying after his personal benefits on each
\noccasion he tried to run for governor, he subsequently forgot his
\nsupporters. “Is that a man that can be trusted? Is that the kind of leader
\nBayelsa needs? A leader who will mortgage the state and interests of the
