The Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki on Monday failed to appear at the
\nresumed trial by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), trying his alleged
\nfailure to declare some assets during his tenure in office as Kwara State
\ngovernor between 2003 and 2011.<\/p>\n
When the prosecuting counsel, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), raised eyebrows over
\nthe absence of the Senate President, the defending counsel and former
\nPresident of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Joseph Daudu, said he was
\nconfused because the Chairman of the tribunal, did not rule on his promise
\nbut only \u201cnoted\u201d and he \u201cdidn\u2019t understand it as such (a ruling)\u201d, adding
\nthat \u201cI expected in the light of judicial practice, that I will get a
\npositive response\u201d.<\/p>\n
Mr Daudu further appealed to the Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Umar to
\nstay action and adjourn seating pending the decision(s) by the Court of
\nAppeal, but the appeal is strongly objected by the prosecution counsel.
\nMr Jacobs argued that the case can\u2019t be adjourned as the accused, Bukola
\nSaraki, has failed to appear before the CCT to take a plea, guilty or not
\n, insisting that the composition of CCT is not the same as it\u2019s quorum.<\/p>\n
Saraki is facing a 13-count charge bordering on alleged corruption and
\nfalse declaration of assets, levelled against him by the Code of Conduct
\nBureau (CCB).<\/p>\n
