All Progressives Congress, APC, has cancelled the Bayelsa State
\ngovernorship primary election held on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The National Chairman of the party, John Oyegun, who disclosed this to
\njournalists on Wednesday, said a new date for the election would be
\nannounced soon.<\/p>\n
The election held in Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, the state capital,
\nwas purportedly won by a former governor of the state, Timipre Sylva, in a
\ncontroversial manner.<\/p>\n
Mr. Sylva polled 726 votes to emerge victorious. His closest rival, Timi
\nAlaibe, a former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development
\nCommission, got four votes.<\/p>\n
Mr. Alaibe and some of the 19 aspirants reportedly walked out of the
\nelection venue in protest before the exercise was held.<\/p>\n
A total of 1,502 delegates were expected to participate in the primary
\nelection.<\/p>\n
Mr. Oyegun explained that the election had to be rescheduled because of
\nsecurity challenges.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe primary has been rescheduled. It had to be called off due to security
\nchallenges,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Timi Frank, also dismissed
\nTuesday\u2019s primary election, alleging that Mr. Sylva held a member of the
\nElection Committee under hostage to declare him winner.

\nMr. Frank dissociated the Committee Chairman, Governor Adams Oshiomhole of
\nEdo State and its secretary, from the \u201ckangaroo primary\u2019 as they were not
\npresent when Sylva was declared.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI am speaking as a concerned citizen of Bayelsa that this primary is not
\nacceptable anywhere.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn a situation where all other aspirants walked out of the venue and a
\nparticular aspirant put a member of the primary election committee under
\nduress to declare him winner, while the chairman and secretary of the
\ncommittee were not present.<\/p>\n
\u201cI believe the party will soon come up with a position on that fraud
\ncalled primary election and schedule a date when an acceptable primary
